Bangladesh all-rounder Nasir Hossain has been for two years by the International Cricket Council after he accepted three charges of breaching the Emirates Cricket Board’s Anti-Corruption Code.

The charges against Nasir were in relation to the 2021 Abu Dhabi T10 League.

Six months of his two-year ban is suspended, meaning the all-rounder will be free to return to cricket on April 7, 2025.

Nasir was charged with the breach of three articles of ECB Anti-Corruption Code, which were – Article 2.4.3, in that he failed to disclose the receipt of a gift that was offered to him that had a value of over USD 750, namely the gift of a new iPhone 12; Article 2.4.4, in that he failed to disclose full details of the approach or invitation he received to engage in Corrupt Conduct via the new iPhone 12; and Article 2.4.6, in that he failed or refused, without compelling justification, to cooperate with the Designated Anti-Corruption Official’s investigation in relation to possible Corrupt Conduct under the Code.

The cricketer accepted all three of these charges and agreed to the sanction in the Anti-Corruption Tribunal hearing.

The 32-year-old debuted for Bangladesh in 2011 against Zimbabwe, and played his last international match on January 25, 2018.

New Zealand beat Bangladesh by 17 runs (DLS method) in the third and final T20I of the three-match series against Bangladesh at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui on Sunday.

The win made sure the hosts level the series 1-1 after losing the first match, and the second contest being called off due to rain.

The hosts were at 95 for the loss of five after 14.4 overs, with Jimmy Neesham (28) and Santner (18) in the middle, before rain stopped play.

The Black Caps went back to the pavilion 17 runs ahead in DLS calculations.

Neesham and Mitchell Santner steadied the ship and took control of their 111-run target before rain stopped play. Following early jitters that saw the hosts get reduced to 49 for the loss of five, Neesham and Santner put together a 46-run stand propelling the Black Caps to 95 for five after 14.4 overs when rain stopped proceedings.

Neesham came out as the aggressor as he took Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto for 14 runs in the 10th over to ease the pressure and tilt the permutations in favour of the hosts as his unbeaten 20-ball 28 put New Zealand ahead in DLS calculations

Two wickets a piece from Mahedi Hasan and Shoriful Islam had put Bangladesh in a strong position but the Neesham-Santner duo managed to thwart away further damage.

Earlier, New Zealand skipper Santner starred with four wickets to help bundle out Bangladesh for 110.

Santner returned four for 16 from his four and was aptly complemented by the pace trio of Tim Southee, Adam Milne and Ben Sears, who scalped two each to skittle out the visitors for the lowest total at the venue.

Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto top-scored with a 15-ball 17-run knock. Middle order batters Towhid Hridoy and Afif Hossain managed 16 and 14 respectively to cap off a dismal effort with the bat.

Neesham, Santner take control before rain interrupts

New Zealand batters Jimmy Neesham and Mitchell Santner steadied the ship and took control of their 111-run target before rain stopped play in the third and final T20I of the three-match series against Bangladesh at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui on Sunday.

Following early jitters that saw the hosts get reduced to 49 for the loss of five, Neesham and Santner put together a 46-run stand propelling the Black Caps to 95 for five after 14.4 overs when rain stopped proceedings.

Neesham came out as the aggressor as he took Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto for 14 runs in the 10th over to ease the pressure and tilt the permutations in favour of the hosts as his unbeaten 20-ball 28 put New Zealand ahead in DLS calculations, meaning that if play does not resume, New Zealand would be declared winners and would level the series 1-1.

Santner delivered able support with the bat with his unbeaten 20-ball 18.

Earlier, two wickets a piece from Mahedi Hasan and Shoriful Islam put Bangladesh in a strong position despite setting a meagre 110-run total.

Shoriful’s second puts Bangladesh on top

Bangladesh pacer Shoriful Islam struck twice to reduce New Zealand to five down for 49 after nine overs in the third and final T20I of the three-match series at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui on Sunday.

Opener Finn Allen, who was the set batter on 38, was Shoriful’s second wicket after he castled dangerman Glenn Phillips for one.

Shoriful nipped it back slightly into Allen off a length and that did the trick as the ball snaked past the inside edge of Allen’s blade and crashed onto the stumps.

Bangladesh left-arm pacer Shoriful Islam bowled a stunner to castle New Zealand batter Glenn Phillips for one in the fifth over of the innings in the third and final T20I of the three-match series at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui on Sunday.

Phillips’s dismissal left the hosts three down for 35 runs after the first six overs.

Shoriful bowled one on a length and got it to deck back into Phillips and the right-handed batter leans forward and plays outside the line as he watched it go past his blade and crash onto the stumps.

Mahedi strikes twice inside Powerplay

Bangladesh off-spinner Mahedi Hasan dismissed New Zealand batters Tim Seifert and Daryl Mitchell to reduce the hosts to two down for 26 after four overs in the third and final T20I of the three-match series at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui on Sunday.

Mahedi got Seifert first when he bowled it full and fast outside off stump in the second over of the innings. Seifert wanted to reverse weep it but got beaten on the pace and missed it completely. Wicketkeeper Rony Talukdar made no mistake and whipped the bails off in time to send the batter back to the pavilion.

To get Mitchell out, Mahedi did the opposite in terms of pace. He gave it some air and brought down the pace. The ball held up a bit on the surface but Mitchell, who looked to take it over mid off, was already through on the shot and the right-handed batter could only chip it to the Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto at mid-off.

Santner stars to restrict Bangladesh to 110 in final T20I

New Zealand skipper Mitchell Santner starred with four wickets to help bundle out Bangladesh for 110 in the third and final T20I of the three-match series at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui on Sunday.

Earlier, Black Caps skipper won the toss and put Bangladesh into bat first .

Bangladesh opener Soumya Sarker was trapped lbw by New Zealand seamer Tim Southee for a run-a-ball four in the first over of the match. Soumya, who was promoted to open on the day, hit the third delivery of the over for four but failed to make contact with an in-swinging full-length delivery that crashed onto his front pad. The umpire was quick to signal out, a decision which Soumya instantly challenged but he was hard done by the umpire’s call as Ball Tracking showed that the ball was just clipping leg stump.

Shanto, who looked good for his 15-ball 17-run knock, had put away four boundaries before his dismissal to Adam Milne. Despite a decent start, he wanted to further up the ante. In the fifth over, the left-handed batter made plenty of room and threw his hands at the ball but couldn’t get the desired elevation, giving away an easy catch to Finn Allen at point.

Middle-order batters Towhid Hridoy and Afif Hossain got sluggish starts but never looked set to get Bangladesh to a competitive total. Both were victims of Santner, with Afif being the first. He seemed out of ideas when he tried to take on the left-arm spinner by dancing down the wicket. He was beaten on the flight and responded by trying to fend it off but could only inside edge it onto his pads after which the ball lobbed to the wicketkeeper. He could manage two boundaries for his 13-ball 14.

Hridoy had a similar stifling experience in the middle as he struggled to get going in his lacklustre 18-ball 16. He too managed a couple of fours but lacked ideas to get Bangladesh out of trouble and conceded a loose poke to edge it to the wicketkeeper.

Tigers reeling as Afif, Hridoy depart

Bangladesh batters Afif Hossain and Towhid Hridoy departed in quick succession after getting starts leaving the Tigers in trouble at five down for 68 after 11 overs.

Afif, who struggled for his 13-ball 14, was the first to go when he lobbed one off the inside edge to the keeper off the bowling of Mitchell Santner in the ninth over.

Hridoy edged one to the wicketkeeper in the 11th over after scoring a sluggish 18-ball 16.

Shanto, Rony depart as Tigers lose three in Powerplay

Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto and opener Rony Talukdar departed in the fifth and sixth over respectively to leave the Tigers three down for 45 after the Powerplay in the third and final T20I of the three-match series against New Zealand at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui on Sunday.

Shanto, who scored a 15-ball 17-run knock, had put away four boundaries before his dismissal to Adam Milne and wanted to further up the ante. He made plenty of room and threw his hands at the ball but couldn’t get the desired elevation, giving away an easy catch to Finn Allen at point.

Opener Rony Talukdar missed a full-length delivery and was given out lbw in the sixth over after scoring a nine-ball 10. Pacer Ben Sears pushed it up and managed to get the better of Rony, who would feel unfortunate as replays later showed that the ball was going down the leg side without hitting the stumps.

Tigers lose Soumya in opening over

Bangladesh opener Soumya Sarker was trapped lbw by New Zealand seamer Tim Southee for a run-a-ball four in the first over of the match in the third and final T20I of the three-match series at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui on Sunday.

Soumya, who was promoted to open on the day, hit the third delivery of the over for four but failed to make contact to an in-swinging full length delivery that crashed onto his front pad. The umpire was quick to signal out, a decision which Soumya instantly challenged but he was hard done on umpire’s call as Ball Tracking showed that the ball was just clipping leg stump.

The Tigers were one down with 10 runs on the board after the end of the first over.

Bangladesh to bat first in 3rd NZ T20I

Bangladesh were sent into bat first after New Zealand skipper Mitchell Santner won the toss and opted to bowl in the third and final T20I of the three-match series at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui on Sunday.

The Tigers made one change as they brought in left-arm spinner Tanvir Islam in place of right-arm pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib. This move means that they go in with three specialist spinners and two frontline pacers, with as plenty of part-time options.

Rony Talukdar will continue to keep wickets for the visitors as Liton Das remains on the bench due to an injury. Liton played the first match but missed out on the second.

The Black Caps, however, went in with the same eleven.

Bangladesh come into the contest with a 1-0 lead in the series having won the first T20I by five wickets in Napier on Wednesday. The Tigers cannot lose the series as the second T20I was called off due to rain but they would be looking to seal a historic maiden series win (in any format) in New Zealand.

Eight out of the 11 matches at the venue were won by teams batting first, with the other three ending in no results.

Bangladesh: Rony Talukdar (wk), Soumya Sarkar, Najmul Hossain Shanto (c), Towhid Hridoy, Afif Hossain, Shamim Hossain, Mahedi Hasan, Rishad Hossain, Shoriful Islam, Tanvir Islam, Mustafizur Rahman

New Zealand: Tim Seifert (wk), Finn Allen, Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, Mark Chapman, James Neesham, Mitchell Santner (c), Adam Milne, Tim Southee, Ish Sodhi, Ben Sears

The second T20I between New Zealand and Bangladesh of the three-match series at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui has been called off due to persistent rain.

New Zealand were 72-2 after 11 overs when the umpires decided the rain was too heavy to continue the proceedings.

Shoriful Islam was impressive again with the new ball as he got rid of his frequent victim Finn Allen in his first over. It was the fifth time Shoriful dismissed the New Zealand dasher in international cricket.

Tim Seifert, who missed out in the previous match, was in fine form as he went after the bowlers right from the start. He was the aggressor in the partnership between him and Daryl Mitchell for the second wicket.

Rishad Hossain was brought in right after the powerplay to stem the run flow and the leg-spinner did so with perfection, putting some pressure on the batters.

Tanzim Hasan Sakib, who was taken down in the first over, returned in the 8th over to send back the dangerous Seifert on 43 off just 23 deliveries.

Rishad and Mustafizur Rahman slowed things down as they found a way to deny Mitchell and Glenn Phillips.

The teams meet again on Sunday for the third game at the same ground.

All-rounder Shorna Akter stole the show in Benoni as she picked up five wickets to hand Bangladesh women’s national team their first-ever win on South African soil as they beat the Proteas by 13 runs in the first Twenty20 International of the three-match series on Sunday.

This is Bangladesh’s first win against South Africa since 2012

Batting first, courtesy of an unbeaten 62 from opener Murshida Khatun, alongside skipper Nigar Sultana Joty’s quickfire 34 runs off 21 balls, Bangladesh posted 149-2 on the board.

In reply, South Africa started well as Anneke Bosch (67) and Tazmin Brits (30) added 69 runs in 57 balls.

Rabeya Khan brought the first breakthrough as she dismissed the latter, and then the havoc began from Shorna.

She picked up Sune Luus (18) in her second over, and then the dangerous Bosch alongside Nondumiso Shangase in her next.

Then, the 16-year-old came to bowl the final over with 24 runs to defend and picked up two wickets, giving away just 10 runs to seal the historic win.

The second edition of the Indian women’s franchise-based Women’s Premier League will take place next year.

The auction for the tournament will be held on 9 December this year. Bangladesh cricketers Rabeya Khatun and Marufa Akter are placed in the draft of that auction.

The base price of both of them are three million rupees. The IPL governing council published the list of registered players on Saturday.

The first edition of WPL was held this year. As many as nine Bangladeshi cricketers were in the list of that mega auction. But only three of them- Jahanara Alam, Salma Khatun and Shorna Akter were auctioned. However, none of the teams picked any of them.

Leg-spinner Rabeya, who made her debut in 2019, has played 14 matches so far and has taken 16 wickets. She took three wickets in the last T20I against India in their three-match series back in July when Bangladesh won by four wickets. One the other hand, 18-year-old Marufa made her debut back in 2022 and the pacer has taken 12 wickets from 13 T20I.

As many as 165 cricketers are registered for auction this year. Among them 104 are Indians. As many as 15 players are from ICC associate nations. As many as 56 of the 165 players have played at international level so far.

The five franchises can buy a maximum of 30 cricketers, among them nine of them can be foreigners. The maximum base price of the auction is five million. West Indies player Deandra Dottin and Irish cricketer Kim Garth are in that pool. Four Indian players are in the four-million-rupee pool.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru bought Indian opener Smriti Mandhana for 34 million in the very first call during the last auction. She was the most expensive player in that auction. Among the foreign cricketers Australia’s Ashleigh Gardner and English cricketer Nat Sciver-Brunt were the most expensive players as they were worth 32 million rupees. Gujrat Giants roped in Gardner while Mumbai Indians bought Sciver-Burnt.

Taijul Islam picked up his second 10-wicket haul in Tests to take Bangladesh to a historic 150-run win over New Zealand on the final day of their first Test in Sylhet on Saturday.

This is Bangladesh’s second-ever win over New Zealand and the first at home against them.

This is also their first Test win at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, and 19th Test win overall, 13th at home.

New Zealand started the day on 113-7, and Bangladesh took an hour and a half to bundle them out for 181 as Taijul picked two more wickets, and Nayeem Hasan picked another.

That took Taijul’s tally for the match to 10 and saw him awarded Player of the Match.

After setting New Zealand a target of 332, Bangladesh were all over them in the fourth day, picking up seven wickets.

On the fifth day, the Blackcaps’ biggest hope was Daryl Mitchell, who was unbeaten on 44. He then went on to pick up his fifty on the final day but could not last too long as he tried to sweep Nayeem but only managed to find Taijul at fine leg to perish for 58.

Tim Southee and Ish Sodhi then kept Bangladesh waiting for almost nine overs as they duo added 46 runs for the ninth wicket, with the former taking on the Bangladesh bowlers as he scored 34 off 24 balls.

However, that attacking mindset brought his demise as he tried to pull a short-ish delivery from Taijul but could only find Zakir Hasan at short mid-wicket.

Sodhi, who played 91 balls in the final innings, was acting as a thorn for the Tigers as he was playing with composure and calm.

In came Taijul again and got one to bounce, leading to Sodhi edging it to Zakir at silly point to bundle out for 151.

Bangladesh failed to maintain the momentum gained by beating Afghanistan in the opening match as they suffered a massive 137-run defeat against defending champions England in the second match of the ICC World Cup in Dharamsala on Tuesday.

After being put into bat first by Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan, England posted a mammoth 364-9, courtesy of a 140-run knock from Dawid Malan, although Bangladesh had managed to restrict them to that total after the English were on 298-3 after 40 overs.

In reply, except for Liton Das’s 76 runs off 66 balls, there was little fire from the Bangladesh batters as they lost four wickets within the first powerplay, a situation they could never recover from.

A fifty from Mushfiqur Rahim and 39 from Towhid Hridoy saw Bangladesh stringently end on 227.

‘If you don’t get a start, if you lose more than three wickets in the first powerplay, then you are not winning many matches. So, definitely, it’s a concern for batting. When we play seven batters, we want our top order to fire so that’s a big concern,’ Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha said after the match.

Chasing 365, Bangladesh lost Tanzid Hasan Tamim (1) and Nazmul Hossain Shanto (0) in back-to-back deliveries from Reece Topley before the left-arm pacer knocked off Shakib’s (1) bails. Soon, Mehidy Hasan Miraz (8) was also back in the hut.

That meant to have any chance of winning the game or at least rescuing their net run rate, Bangladesh needed Liton and Mushfiq to fire, and the duo combined for 72 runs for the fifth wicket.

Liton, who had been undergoing a lean patch and scored just one fifty in his past 12 innings, eventually overcame the dearth.

However, he never looked defensive in the process, as he started his innings in a flamboyant manner, smacking the English Chris Woakes for three fours in the first over.

Liton reached his 11th ODI fifty off just 38 balls, hitting seven fours and one maximum, and also pulled his side into three figures. However, the right-hander then edged one casually to get out on 76.

Mushfiq continued with Towhid Hridoy and formed a 43-run partnership before he gave a catch to Adil Rashid off Topley. Although the latter added 39 runs more in the lower order, it just reduced the margin.

Topley was the peak among the bowlers, claiming 4-43, while Woakes picked up 2.

Earlier, England made a flying start as their opening pair added 115 before Shakib bowled Johny Bairstow for 52.

Then, riding on Malan’s cracking 140 off 107 runs, his seventh ODI ton, and Joe Root’s whirlwind 68-ball 82, England were heading towards a score beyond 400.

However, the Bangladesh bowlers gave away just 66 runs in the final 10 overs and picked up six wickets, leading to England finishing on 364.

Shak Mahedi Hasan was the standout bowler for the Tigers, claiming 4-71, while Shoriful Islam took three. Taskin Ahmed and Shakib took one wicket each.

A stunning all-round display from Mehidy Hasan Mirza, who notched up a half-century and claimed three wickets, powered Bangladesh to a comprehensive six-wicket win over Afghanistan in their first match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in Dharamsala on Saturday.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan put his team in control with three key wickets, while Mehidy (3-25) cleaned up the tail. Afghanistan’s top scorer was Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who had 47 points. Mehidy then contributed significantly to Bangladesh’s response, scoring 57 off 73 balls as the 2015 quarter-finalists chased their target of 157 in 34.4 overs.

“I was a little bit cautious in my mind early on while bowling but the captain told me to bowl at the right areas and told me to be consistent and that gave me confidence,” Player of the Match Mehidy said. “I always play at number eight so it was a great opportunity to bat in the top order. I always have the hunger so definitely it’s a great moment for me to perform.”

Afghanistan got off to a good start, with Gurbaz putting up steady stands with Ibrahim Zadran (22) and Rahmat (18), but Shakib enticed both Ibrahim and Rahmat into risky shots, and a couple of wayward top edges ended the partnerships just as they were beginning to look dangerous. Afghanistan were in a strong position at 112/2 after 24 overs despite losing two wickets, but their hopes of building on that foundation were dashed when Hashmatullah Shahidi and Gurbaz were dismissed in quick succession.

Afghanistan’s middle order collapsed as a result, and they lost their final six wickets for just 44 runs to finish on 156. Afghanistan suffered from some poor shot selection, which resulted in wicket losses in situations where they could have won.

Bangladesh’s chase began on a shaky note, with both openers departing early, leaving them on 27-2. Mehidy’s arrival helped to steady the ship, but the 25-year-old benefited from a stroke of luck when he was caught by Najibullah Zadran on 16 runs. Mehidy and Najmul Hossain Shanto (59 not out) combined for 97 runs, and despite Rahmat Shah’s spectacular one-handed catch to end Mehidy’s innings, Bangladesh cruised to victory.
