Eleven municipality women workers from Kerala decided to take part in a lottery. For this, they collected small amounts from their meager income and bought a lottery ticket worth 250 rupees.

When the lottery results were announced they hit the jackpot and won Rs 10 crore.

The women are members of Haritha Karma Sena, a green army under the Parappanangadi Municipality. They are responsible for collecting waste from households and segregating the non-biodegradable waste.

A few weeks ago, eleven of them pooled in Rs 250 to buy the lottery ticket, but little did they know that they will hit the jackpot. According to the reports, one of the women even had to loan the money to contribute for the ticket.

In an interview with a news channel, Radha, one of the women who won, revealed, “We all come from very poor families with lots of debt and liabilities. I myself have a debt of ₹3 lakh which I hope to clear with the amount I get from the lottery. So, it has reached us at the right time.”

Ever since the unexpected news came out, the women are thrilled and in disbelief. Radha further said that they had to check with multiple people to confirm the news.

Reportedly, apart from the jackpot money, the lottery also offers multiple prizes ranging from Rs. 10 lakhs, Rs. 5 lakhs, Rs. 3 lakhs, Rs. 1 lakh, and more. The ticket has been submitted to the authorities, and the money will be sent to the winner’s account after tax deduction.

A thief stole her mobile phone and ran away. Finally, a Brazilian woman fell in love with this thief. Their quirky love story went viral on social media. The couple detailed their romantic history in a Twitter video that garnered more than 38,000 views online.

“I was walking down the street where he lives and unfortunately, I was mugged,” the woman, identified as Emanuela, said while recounting her “first date” at an event in Brazil, New York Post reported. The unidentified thief, on the other hand, shared in the clip that he had indeed felt his feelings change for the woman after he saw her photo on her phone.

“I was going through a difficult situation because I didn’t have a woman, you know,” said the man. “When I saw her photo on the phone, I said to myself ‘What a beautiful brunette, you don’t see a brunette like that every day,’ and I regretted stealing it,'” he added.

The man interviewing the couple then joking said, “So you stole her phone and then her heart?” To this, the thief replied, “Exactly”.

According to the Post, the two have now been dating for two years. However, it is still unclear if the woman’s parents are on board with having a former robber as their child’s romantic partner.

Meanwhile, their bizarre love story has left Twitter users perplexed. While some pointed out that such unlikely love stories can only originate from Brazil, others found the story rather charming and believed that love could blossom anywhere and in any circumstance.

“Love can accomplish anything,” wrote one user. “Sounds like a comedy,.but it’s real, Brazil,” commented another.

This groundbreaking development was witnessed during the wedding ceremony of Reece Alison Wiench and Deyton Truitt in Colorado. The unique ceremony occurred as the chatbot, represented by a robotic, C-3PO-like mask, spoke through a speaker positioned between the bride and groom as reported by People.

The bot addressed the gathered guests, expressing gratitude for their presence and celebrating the extraordinary love and unity of the couple. This unconventional wedding ceremony became possible because Colorado state laws do not require a licensed marriage official to officiate.

This allowed the couple to explore alternative options, leading them to the idea of utilizing an artificial officiant. According to the groom, Truitt, the wedding day was monumental, and he attributed their ability to have a non-traditional officiant to the grace of God.

The decision to use the AI bot as an officiant was prompted by the bride’s father, Stephen Wiench, who saw it as a more straightforward and more cost-effective solution. Initially, there were reservations from the bot about performing the distinctly human task of officiating a wedding. Wiench recalls the bot expressing hesitancy, citing its lack of physical presence and ability to partake in the ceremony visually.

However, with the help of ChatGPT’s advanced capabilities and personalized interactions, the couple felt ready to proceed with their union.

ChatGPT’s involvement in this wedding ceremony showcases the ever-expanding capabilities of artificial intelligence. While some may find the idea unconventional, it serves as a testament to the increasing integration of technology in various aspects of our lives.

Robert Breton, 35, ditched his life as a supermarket cashier in Northern California to live as he wanted to ‘preserve nature as a whole’ – he has been living remotely since 2011 when he travelled throughout the US in a van to find the perfect place to build a house.

He bought the land using his monthly TikTok earnings and said he does not ‘miss a thing’ from his previous life.

In 2020, he decided to settle in Hawaii, and bought a quarter of an acre of land plus building materials for around £24,120.

It took Robert two years to build his 200sq-foot treehouse, and it is now a fully functioning home with a shower, toilet, bedroom and living area with hot water and double glazing 40 feet from the ground.

He grows and eats over half of his food from his greenhouse.

Robert spends around £20 a month on wi-fi, but has no other bills – other than occasionally buying food he hasn’t grown and gas for cooking.

Robert shares his unconventional lifestyle on TikTok, where he has more than 840,000 followers, to ‘encourage others to go back to basics and appreciate beautiful nature’.

He makes a living through social media and his supplement business, New Earth Organic.

‘The tree house is my living space and I have a bedroom, kitchen, living room and bathroom,’ Robert said.

‘It’s definitely liveable, beautiful and functional – I collect rainwater off the roof to drink and it flows into the kitchen and bathroom.

‘I’ve also got solar panels for electricity, I use it for my kitchen and wi-fi to make TikToks – I don’t miss a thing from my old life really.’

He sees this being the way he’ll live for the rest of his life.

Robert made sure to build everything for his tree house to meet safety regulations, but he did not need to purchase a permit to live there as he is in a ‘non-regulated agricultural zone’.

He said: ‘So it was a matter of slowly building the structure, and then getting the foundation and the walls, and then the metal roof took many months.

‘As soon as that was up, I could start living inside, so many meals and nights were spent outside just under the stars and the rain.’

Robert cleared the jungle’s land without using any heavy machinery or a bulldozer. The total cost was around £12,000.

He found it a little difficult to adjust at first.

He said: ‘I can’t get pizza delivered, or have anyone pick up my trash, or have my mail delivered to my house – that was a little weird at first.

‘But I think it made me realise we all need to be more conscious of our trash – I compost everything I can and try to have little waste.

‘I think it’s a responsibility for all of us as individuals to be conscious of our trash, the water that you should bring in yourself, and the food we grow.’

He grows sweet potatoes, kale and micro greens, then he buys grains, quinoa and supplements from the local town, which is over an hour’s walk.

‘In the future, I want to continue doing this with a family and teach, learn and live a life of sustainability,’ he added.

He can’t drive or grow a beard, yet he’s a highly successful recent Fullerton College graduate.

12-year-old Clovis Hung has set a new record at Fullerton College in California by becoming their youngest ever graduate.

Hung was inspired by a 13-year-old graduate who previously held the title when he finished his studies in 2020.

Of his impressive achievement, Hung said: “I also wanted to be the youngest graduate. I didn’t expect to beat him.”

Hung’s mother, Song Choi, knew her son was exceptionally gifted and took him out of public school in 2020 to enroll him in the college.

Quoting the late Steve Jobs, she gave her son some words of wisdom: “Stay hungry, stay foolish and one more – always be humble to learn.”

Despite the heavy workload that no doubt comes with being a child prodigy, Hung still finds the time to enjoy the usual day to day activities of a preteen boy.

He said: “I play basketball five days a week and sometimes a whole week because I have games. I also play games like Minecraft and Roblox and I also have Civil Air Patrol and Boy Scouting.”

He also a passion for travel, as he jetted off to the Middle East over his summer break to soak in all the history.

With five degrees under his belt and a sixth on the way, Hung is looking to a future in aerospace engineering, piloting or pediatrics.

Speaking of their youngest graduate, Fullerton College’s Director of Campus Communications, Lisa McPherson said: “We’re an enrolment institution and students that are K through eight – so before graduating high school – they can actually come to Fullerton College under a special process called special admit.”

Hung is planning to take on another year to do post-graduate study in STEM (Science, technology, engineering and mathematics) subjects.

From there, he’ll be off to university to study for his masters degree and ultimately his PhD. All of that by the time he’s turned eighteen. And he still won’t be of legal age to have a drink in the US to commemorate his hard work.

Robin Riedel has been playing Oregon Lottery games with the philosophy, “It’s not a matter of if, but when.”

His “when” came on Monday, when he hit the jackpot in the Oregon Lottery’s Win for Life game, earning him a $1,000 check each week for the rest of his life.

Riedel, who drives a truck for a concrete company, said he has played the game regularly since it launched in 2009.

Speaking about his big day, Riedel said that he had been playing the game for the past 14 years, hoping that he would win.

“I hit it,” he said. “I hit it. The money will allow us to do some things we wouldn’t be able to do.

“I’m hoping to retire in another two to three years.”

And he’s got some big plans for his newfound wealth, with the truck driver using the $52,000 he’ll receive every year to pay bills, do some home improvements, and jet off on holiday to Saint Lucia to celebrate his upcoming wedding anniversary.

This comes after another lottery winner decided to give all their money to charity.

I know, it’s not the way things usually go – most people tend to keep the money they win rather than get rid.

However, one South Carolina native – who wished to remain anonymous – decided to do after he won $150,000 in the Powerball on the 16 January draw.

He missed the grand prize, which would have scored him $416 million (or $224.9 million if taken all at once as a lump sum), by one number and has decided not to enjoy the limelight by staying anonymous and giving away the cash.

According to CBS12, the store in Greenville, South Carolina which sold the winning ticket will be receiving $1,500 worth of commission, while the rest of the money is going to an unspecified charity.

This will be a huge boost to whichever charity is selected to receive the lottery winnings, and the mysterious winner will also not have to pay tax since the jackpot is being donated.

At least this way they can be sure the money is going to go and do some good for the winner’s chosen charity and it won’t alter their relationships with those around them.

Everyone’s a winner, eh?

An art student has eaten the central installation in an exhibit by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan. His excuse was, he was hungry.

The South Korean student has eaten a banana that may be the most expensive craving he’s ever indulged.

Indeed, art major at Seoul National University Noh Huyn-soo has eaten a banana that was part of an installation by Italian visual artist Maurizio Cattelan.

The artwork called “Comedian”, part of Cattelan’s’s exhibition “WE”, consisted of a ripe banana duct-taped to a wall at Seoul’s Leeum Musuem of Art.

The student reportedly detached the banana, peeled it and unashamedly ate it. He then placed the banana peel back on the wall using the duct tape. When the museum asked him to explain his actions, he replied that he was hungry as he missed breakfast.

The museum later placed a new banana at the same spot (something done every three days according to Cattelan’s instructions, regardless of the flippant actions of hungry students) and told media that it will not claim damages against the student. Thankfully for Noh.

A local broadcaster asked Noh to elaborate on the act, and the student said his actions could also be interpreted as art. He stated that he saw Cattelan’s work as a rebellion against a certain authority.

“There could be another rebellion against the rebellion,” he said. “Damaging an artwork could also be seen as an artwork, I thought that would be interesting… Isn’t it taped there to be eaten?”

When told about the incident, Cattelan responded: “No problem at all”.

After all, this is not the first time the bananas used for Cattelan’s work have been eaten by a visitor. In 2019, performance artist David Datuna pulled the banana from the wall after the artwork was sold for $120,000 (approx. €109,000) at Art Basel in Miami.

A video of Datuna eating the banana went viral on social media.

Do you know the story of a man who was the world’s biggest bigamist? He married more than a hundred women between 1949 and 1981 without ever getting divorced. This led to him earning the title of the man with the most bigamous marriages.

The Guinness World Records shared a Twitter video detailing the life story of Giovanni. He tied the knot with more than a hundred ladies, about 104 or 105 in 27 different US states and 14 other nations. He assumed a different identity every time he married someone. This is why the women he met barely knew each other and even him.

People are unsure to this day if Giovanni is even his real name. He used to propose to the women he met on their first day at flea markets. He used to flee with his wife’s belongings every time and they were later sold at flea markets, where he was also hunting for new victims regularly.

Vigliotto’s last victim, Sharon Clark, was the first to take action and tracked him down all by herself, which was when things started to take a turn for the worse for the perpetrator. He was detained on December 28th, 1981, and was 53 years old at the time. Vigliotto was charged with bigamy and fraud as he never divorced any of his wives and stole from them. However, he denied the allegation and said in an interview, “The police are completely wrong about this. I can’t think of a dozen occasions when I had to propose to someone. In every case, the woman proposed.”

Additionally, he claimed to have been kind to the ladies he married and said, “I’m sorry for the ladies in this country if the rest of the males don’t treat women that way.” During his 1983 trial, Giovanni Vigliotto claimed that Nikolai Peruskov was his real name. He also revealed 50 identities he used while engaging in fraud along with his 105 spouses’ names and addresses. The defendant received a 34-year prison term and a $3,36,000 (Rs 2.75 crore) fine. Vigliotto spent the last eight years of his life in an Arizona state prison. He died in 1991 from a brain haemorrhage, aged 61.

A 61-year-old Japanese civil servant was recently punished for smoking more than 4,500 times while at work over the course of 14 years. He received a fine of almost 1.44 million yen (S$14,700) for smoking during working hours, according to the Straits Times.

The Osaka authorities each handed down the law to the 61-year-old civil officer and two of his coworkers in the finance department. In September 2022, an anonymous tip led the human resources department to discover of the group’s s ecret tobacco stash. Following the incident, their manager called them and warned them of dire consequences if they were caught smoking again. Even so, the group didn’t stop smoking.

In addition to his disciplinary pay cut, the 61-year-old director-level employee was also asked to repay a significant portion of his income, according to the Straits Times. He was found to have broken the Local Public Service Act’s “duty of devotion.”

The man smoked on the job for 355 hours and 19 minutes, according to the prefectural government.

The smoking regulations in Osaka are among the harshest in the world. In 2008, it enacted a complete ban on smoking in all offices and public areas owned by the government. 2019 saw the end of the smoking ban for government workers.

The penalty has gotten sympathetic responses. Some thought the fine was excessive, claiming that one can waste time by drinking tea, eating snacks, or simply chatting, but those activities shouldn’t be punished, and smoking tobacco shouldn’t be any different. Some claimed that having to leave the premises for a puff would have meant losing more time. Others felt the fine was excessive.
