Bangladeshi artistes on way to India

Most of the 88 Bangladeshi artistes will leave Dhaka today for India participate in Tagore’s 150th birth anniversary programmes scheduled to be held in New Delhi and Kolkata.
The programme titled, ‘Commemoration of 150th Birth Anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore’ is a part of joint arrangement of Bangladesh and India to celebrate the anniversary, beginning in Dhaka today and in India tomorrow.
Indian prime minister Manmohan Singh will preside over the inaugural ceremony tomorrow at the Vigyan Bhavan in Delhi, while Bangladesh planning minister A K Khandakar will attend it as chief guest.
The event will begin through performances by Bangladeshi Rabindra Sangeet maestro Rezwana Choudhury Bonna and Indian maestro Dwijen Choudhury. They will be joined by Hindustani classical music vocalist Madhup Mudgal, who will present a Rabindra Sangeet recital in Hindi, Indian Ministry of Culture said in a statement on Thursday.
‘I will render the song Barisha dharar majhe shantira bari,’ Bonna told New Age.
On that day, educationist Zillur Rahman Siddiqui will deliver a lecture at the three-hour international seminar on ‘Tagore, the Universal Thinker’ at 4pm at the same venue.
In the evening, Rezwana Chowdhury Bonya, Refaquat Hossain Chowdhury (Fahim) and Audity Mohsin will also render songs at Rabindra Bhaban’s Meghdoot Theatre 1.
On the following day at the Rabindra Bhaban, Bangladeshi artistes will present music and dance recitals and recitation.
‘I will perform the premiere 40-minute solo composition of Tagore’s short story ‘Nadi’ based dance recital,’ said eminent dancer Tamanna Rahman.
Tagore singer Shama Rahman and Lily Islam will render songs, while Bhaswar Bandyopadhay will recite a Tagore poem.
On the same day, poet Nirmalendu Goon, Mohadeb Saha, Rafiq Azad, Rubi Rahman and Habibullah Sirajee will participate at a ‘Poet Get Together’ event at Bigyan Bhaban.
On May 9, artistes of the ‘Jago Art Centre’ led by dancer Belayet Hossain Khan will stage dance drama ‘Samanya Khati’. ‘We will also perform different genres of dance recitals including classical and folk-based pieces composed by Gawhar Jamil,’ Belayet Hossain told New Age.
A total of twenty dancers including Rafiqul Islam, Priodarshini Auvi, Monjurul Haq and Ishita Biswas among others will perform.
The programmes in Kolkata will begin on May 9 at the Science City Convention Centre Complex in which a remarkable number of Bangladeshi artistes will present music and dance.
Tagore singer Papiya Sarwar, Sadi Muhammad and Anamika Tripura will render songs at the venue on the opening day. Eight dancers of ‘Pallabi’ will perform group dance ‘Ananta ananda dhara’ directed by Minu Haque at the event, said coordinator of the troupe Dipa Khandakar, who is also a performer.
On the following day, Tagore singer Nandita Yasmin and Mohadev Ghosh will render Tagore songs in the evening programme at Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre at Kalkata. Recitation artist Ahkamullah will recite Tagore poem at the event.
Twenty dancers of Nittyanandan led by eminent dancer Sharmila Banerjee will stage Tagore’s dance drama Chandalika. ‘I will perform in the lead role of the dance drama named Prokrity,’ said Sharmila Banerjee.
On May 11, artistes of theatre troupe Palakar will stage Tagore’s Dakghar at the Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre at Kolkata.
