Bangladesh National Museum and Nazrul Institute have jointly organised a commemorating programme marking the national poet
Kazi Nazrul Islam’s 114th birth anniversary.
The programme includes a six-day exhibition of memory tokens of Nazrul at Nalinikanto Bhattashali Gallery of National Museum as well as a discussion and cultural programme on Sunday evening.The museum is showcasing around 90 mementos and 14 photographs of the poet. Additionally, two tokens and 64 photographs have been placed at the exhibition by Nazrul Institute. The institute has also displayed books it has published on Nazrul.
The mementos include several objects used on a daily basis by Nazrul at his Dhanmondi residence since 1972 till his death in 1976.
Clothes and furniture (pyjamas, panjabis, lungis, table, chair, shoes, dressing table, suitcase, bed), Nazrul’s citizenship certificate issued by Bangladesh government, medal of Ekushey Padak and Military Padak, Nazrul’s handwriting (songs, letters) are on display. There are a good number of photographs of Nazrul in different places and phases of life with other noted personalities.
Many enthusiastic visitors thronged the gallery for a glimpse of the tokens associated with the poet.
Secretary of cultural ministry Dr Ranajit Kumar Biswas inaugurated the exhibition at 11.00am on Sunday. The exhibition will remain open for all till May 31 from 10.00am to 6.00pm.
A discussion session and a cultural programme were also held at the museum auditorium on Sunday evening.
Professor Dr Muhit-ul-Alam presented a paper in the discussion session in which he highlighted Nazrul as a poet of rebellion, humanity, modernity and secularism. Noted Nazrul researcher Dr Rafiqul Islam, chairman of Nazrul Institute Trustee Board, was present as the chief guest.
Following the discussion a cultural programme was held, which commenced with chorus presentations of Dao shurjo dao dhoirjo and Durgom giri kantar moru.
Prominent singer Khairul Anam Shakil pleased the audience with melodious rendition of two very famous Nazrul songs-Mor priya hobe eso rani and Nohe nohe priyo e noy akhijol.
Nazrul singer Farhana Shirin Nipa presented Kul rakho no rakho se tumi jano.
Mahidul Islam recited Nazrul’s Obhibasan and Ayre abar amar chiro-tikto pran.
The programme ended with a dance recital synchronised with Tumi ki dakhina paban by the members of dance troupe Nrityalok Sangskritic Kendra.
