Minister assures business leaders
Home minister Sahara Khatun has said the government is working with a plan to produce additional 7500 megawatt by 2013 to ease the industrialisation process.
“Power and energy is urgently needed to flourish the industrial sector. In this context, the present government is working on producing additional 7500 MW electricity and it is trying to discover new gas fields,” the minister told a view exchange meeting on “Prevailing Law and Order Situation,” organised by the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) in the city on Sunday. The meeting was presided over FBCCI president AK Azad. State minister for home Shamsul Hoque Tuku was the special guest.
FBCCI’s first vice-president Md Jashim Uddin, vice president Mostafa Azad Chowdhury Babu, home secretary Abdus Sobhan Sikder, inspector general of police Hasan Mahmood Khandker, director general of RAB Mokhlesur Rahman, additional commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Abdul Jalil Mondal, president of Bangladesh Exporters Association Abdus Salam Murshedy and many other business leaders spoke on the occasion. Sahara Khatun said the export of readymade garment has increased to a large extent.
She also pointed to the rise in foreign investment year by year, adding: “Now we are exporting ship to Germany and many other European countries.” On car requisition by the police, she said there are 600 thanas in Bangladesh, of which many have not sufficient car to carry out their works. FBCCI president AK Azad said, “The law enforcers have to be more active in ensuring the life and wealth of the people.”
“Our goods are often hijacked in highways, especially in the northern region, ” he said and urged the police to strengthen the monitoring in highways by increasing the number of police.
