It was an afternoon where artistes and photographers from eight South Asian nations brought their visions about the future, together they created their own respective ideas of future that is not at all bypassing the existing real world.
A total of 25 young artistes, born after 1975, sketched their thoughts that ranged from river erosion miseries for hordes of people, and natural landscapes to problems of wars and miscommunication.
And they have used all forms of arts, from ancient traditional technique of painting to digital printing, where the imaginations and dreams took a huge leap from just a bright coloured canvas to a piece that speaks of time.
“In building a common vision for a more prosperous future in South Asia, young artistes and other youths have an important role to play. This was the impetus behind this art competition,” said Ellen Goldstein, country director of World Bank in Bangladesh.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith inaugurated the show titled “Imagining Our Future Together” at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the capital yesterday.
The South Asia Regional Art Exhibition, organised and sponsored by the World Bank, will also showcase these artworks in New Delhi and Washington DC, between this month and May 2013.
The exhibition showcases 42 artworks, which were selected from around 1,000 artworks from Bangladesh, India, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Maldives, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
The exhibition will end in Dhaka on October 13.
