54 killed, 140 injured in road accidents

At least 54 people were killed and 140 others injured in separate traffic accidents all over the country during the Eid holydays.
New Age Pabna correspondent reported at least five people were killed and 40 others injured in separate accidents in Ishwardi upazila in Pabna on Saturday and Tuesday.
Four people including a minor boy were killed in a road accident on Pabna-Kushtia highway at Joynagar in Ishwardi upazila on Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Enamul Haque, 30, son of Panjab Ali, Shamim Hossain, 27, son of Islam Hossain of Muladuli village, Shabab, one-year old son of Liton Khan of Millpar in Kushtia district, and Shahidul Islam, 27, son of Abdul Latif of Bonpara in Natore district.
Police and witnesses said the accident took place when a Kushtia-bound bus of Hanif Paribahan hit a motorcycle from behind, leaving one dead on the spot and injuring two others.
Angry local people blocked the highway in protest for one-and-a-half hour. The police seized the bus but the driver and his helper fled away.
In another accident, bus helper Habibur Rahman, 30, was killed and 10 passengers were injured as a Bogra-bound bus driver lost control over his vehicle and hit a road-side tree on Pabna-Rajshahi highway at Shalikapur on Sunday night.
New Age Comilla correspondent reported at least ten people were killed and 60 others injured in separate accidents in Comilla on Monday-Tuesday.
One person was killed and 20 others were injured while a Comilla-bound bus crashed onto a roadside restaurant as its driver lost control over the steering at Batasha in Chuddagram Upazila on Tuesday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Shaiful Islam, 28. The injured were admitted to Chuddagram Health Complex.
In another accident, a microbus driver died on the spot while a Dhaka-bound truck collided head-on with the microbus on Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Raipur in Daudkandi upazila on Monday morning.
The deceased was identified as Shah Alam, 40, from village Potia in Chittagong district.
Meanwhile, an unidentified pedestrian died on the spot after being run over by a truck on Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Gabindapur in
Chandina upazila on Monday morning.
In another accident, three motorcyclists were killed when a bus hit their bike on the highway at Nurtali in Chandina upazila of Comilla on Tuesday afternoon.
At least five people were killed and 15 injured in a traffic accident at Gormati in Boraigram upazila on Natore-Pabna Highway on Tuesday noon.
Four of the deceased were identified as school students Milon, 15, Nantu, 16, Joynal, 14, and Sujon, 14, of Daulaltpur upazila in Kushtia district.
In Keraniganj, three unidentified people died on the spot and two others were injured as a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and a bus collided at Rajhalot in South Keraniganj upazila on Tuesday afternoon.
In Gaibandha, Rubel Mia, a motorcyclist, succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital after an auto-rickshaw hit his bike at Madanpara in Phulchari upazila on Monday night.
In Bagerhat, Qaiyum Fakir, 55, a farmer of Patorpara in Sadar upazila, died on the spot when a truck hit him while he was crossing the road near Khan Jahan Ali Mazar in Sadar upazila on Tuesday afternoon.
Our Rangpur correspondent reported two youths were killed when a Rangpur-bound bus ran over them at Bayanpara in Taraganj upazilla on Saturday evening.
The deceased were Lokman Hossain, 16, and Mahabubul Haque, 15, residents of Ekorcholi village under Taraganj upazilla of the district.
New Age Jhenaidah correspondent reported a motorcycle rider Rasel Ahmed, 28, was killed in a head-on collision with an autorickshaw on Jhenaidah-Harinakundu road at Shitli Bazar in the district on Wednesday morning.
In Meherpur, at least two people were killed and one was injured after head-on collision between a motorcycle and a ‘Nasiman’ on Meherpur-Chuadanga road on Sunday night.
In Rajshahi, at least three people were killed in separate accidents at Nowdapara in Shahmakhdum police station on Sunday and Monday.
Witnesses said Hafizur Rahman, 32, died on the spot and Nahid Hassan, 22, in the hospital after a head-on collision between two motorcycles on Khalil Sharkar intersection at Nowdapara on Monday evening.
Meanwhile, a house wife Sharifa Begum, 40, was killed after a head-on collision between a motorcycle and a Nasiman on the same spot on Sunday.
In Kushtia, Mokhlesur Rahman, a sub-inspector of police, was killed after a traffic accident at Kachubari in Mirpur upazila on Saturday night.
In Noakhali, two people were killed and 11 others injured after a head-on collision between a pick-up van and a bus at Banglabazar in Laxmipur on Monday morning.
In Chittagong, Yeasmin Akhter, 35, a housewife, was killed when an autorickshaw carrying her hit a road side electric poll after its driver lost control of the vehicle on Chittagong-Khagrachari road in Katirhat area of Hathazari on Tuesday morning.
At least four people were killed and several others injured when a Dhaka-bound bus carrying some 35 passengers plunged into a roadside water-filled ditch in Sirajdikhan upazila of Munshiganj district on the Eid day.
In Rangpur, two youths were killed in an accident on Dinajpur-Rangpur highway at Bayanpara area on Saturday evening.
In Gazipur, a 7-year old child was killed after he was hit by a bus at Sripur in the district on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Shahidul Islam, 40, was killed after being hit by a bus at Cheragali in Tongi and two others were killed in an accident at Kaliakoir in the district on Saturday noon.
In Mymensingh, two people were killed after being hit by a Nasiman in Deoulpara area in Pagla upazila on Saturday noon.
In the capital Dhaka, at least six people were killed in road accidents during the Eid holydays.
