Former Bangladesh captain Aminul Islam could join the national team coaching set-up for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe if everything goes according to plan.
Bangladesh Cricket Board has decided to include a local assistant coach in the national team management to help Shane Jurgensen, who is set to be the interim head coach for the twin tours.
The BCB feels the need for a local coach who can assist Jurgensen, originally the bowling coach of the side, who took over the duties of head coach for the recent West Indies series after Richard Pybus quit the post.
Aminul and Khaled Mahmud, currently at the helm of Bangladesh Premier League franchise Chittagong Kings, are the two leading contenders for the job, said the officials.
Mahmud, who once acted as an assistant to Jamie Siddons, however, is unlikely to get the job because of his involvement with Prime Bank, who will be fighting for the Dhaka Premier League glory during the series.
He is also in charge of Prime Bank foundation, which made it difficult for him to take up the interim charge.
It made Aminul the front runner for the appointment, which could be confirmed at a meeting of the cricket operations committee today.
Aminul, currently involved as a development coach in the Asian Cricket Council, is looking forward to the terms and conditions as well as status before agreeing to accept the job.
‘I need to see the status and portfolio of my job before accepting any offer which I am yet to get from the BCB ,’ Aminul told reporters on Friday. ‘I need to consider the financial benefits too,’ he said.
