All-rounder Mahmu-dullah is ready to take up the challenge of batting powerplay during the upcoming World Cup as prescribed coach by Jamie Siddons.
Siddons suggested Mahmudullah and wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim take the role of power hitting after seeing their encouraging performances in the first phase of ongoing Dhaka Premier League.
As the captain of title contenders Abahani, Mahmudullah showed a rich vein of form scoring 376 runs in 10 innings at an average of 62.67 in the league. In some matches he used the batting powerplay quite spectacularly which was the most encouraging factor.
‘Because I bat at number seven I think I have a very special role to play,’ Mahmudullah told reporters on Monday. .
At the start of the season my aim was to carry my innings till the end and Siddons also told me to do so. I tried to follow his instruction in the Premier League so that I can take full advantage of powerplay,’ said Mahmudullah.
Mahmudllah, who has a strike rate of 67.42 in one-day cricket, had had some opportunity to execrate run rate in the powerplay, but he could not bat as a desired pace which still left many skeptic of his ability of slogging.
‘I cannot go to the wicket and start hitting fours and sixes immediately. It does not suit my style so I like to settle down and then go for my shots. Sometimes I don’t get the time but if I can settle down it comes easier for me,’ he said.
‘At times we failed to take the advantage of batting powerplay so we are really working on it and trying to improve our batting during the phase,’ said Muhamudullah.
Mahumudullah, who hardly get a chance to complete his full quota of 10 overs with the ball,
said he is ready reverse the role and take full responsibility with the ball after a lot of hard work with his action.
He off-spinner worked with his action with former fielding coach Ruwan Kalpage before turning to Mohammad Salauhddin, a coach specialsed on spin, for help.
‘I worked with my bowling action and is more or less settled with it now. If you look back at the last two international series probably you will notice it, ’said Muhamudullah.
