Bangladesh women’s team captain Nigar Sultana vowed to make their maiden ICC Women’s World Cup journey unforgettable by achieving a rare success in the global event, starting on March 4 at Mount Maunganui, New Zealand.
‘Being our maiden World Cup, we are keen to make it unforgettable where we are aiming to come up with our best with our experienced core,’ Nigar told during a press conference on Sunday.
Bangladesh, who recently took part in the Commonwealth Games Women’s Cricket Qualifier 2022, performed well with three wins out of their four games.
The Asia Cup champions won their first three games convincingly before losing the last match against Sri Lanka.
Now they are hoping to improve upon that performance in the World Cup.
Bangladesh take on England in the fourth warm-up match of the tournament at Lincoln Green on Monday as they are set to start the main campaign against South Africa on March 5 in Dunedin.
Nigar believes that her fellow mates, both experienced and youngsters, who left their mark in the qualifiers, are quite adept in their roles.
‘They are well-versed about their role both in the warm-up match as well as in the main contention. At the same time we have some youngsters too who are performing up to the par since few months,’ said the Bangladesh captain.
‘We have a few all-rounders who appeared with superlative efforts in their last tournament, which makes us hopeful of featuring in the final round.’
The 24-year-old wicketkeeper batter also believes that if they can conclude the competition with some wins that would benefit the country’s cricket.
‘It’s a huge opportunity for us as you have seen we have worked really hard to secure a spot here [in the tournament].
‘This is our inaugural World Cup and if we can end on a fine note it would have a tremendous impact on our cricket.’
