North South University’s Department of English and Modern Languages organised the prize-giving ceremony of the country’s largest Language Olympiad titled ‘Bakeman’s 2nd International Language League’ on Saturday at NSU.
The programme was sponsored by Akij Bakers Limited biscuit brand Bakeman and was live broadcast on the official Facebook page of North South University.
Bakeman’s 2nd International Language League successfully wrapped up with the completion of the divisional round, semifinal round, and final round.
The first season was held in 2019. This season has been held in March 2022.
In total, 30,000 participants took part in the contest. From all across the country, nationally 29,000 participants were in English and Bangla segments, while 1000 participants internationally were in French, Chinese, and German in online segments.
The national participants were selected from about 8 divisions spanning 40 districts hosted by 28 institutions with various schools, colleges, and universities all over Bangladesh.
Planning minister MA Mannan was present as chief guest, Azim Uddin Ahmed, chairman, Board of Trustees, North South University, was present as special guest and Sheikh Jamil Uddin, director, Akij Baker’s Ltd, was present as guest of honour.
Atiqul Islam, vice-chancellor, North South University chaired the event, said a press release.
AQMA Rahman Bhuiyan, Chairman, Department of English and Modern Languages, delivered the welcome speech. Coordinator of ‘Bakeman’s 2nd International Language League’ Md Mehedi Hasan moderated the programme.
Among others, M Ismail Hossain, pro-vice-chancellor, NSU, ABM Rashedul Hassan, treasurer, NSU, Abdur Rob Khan, dean, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, NSU, deans, directors of various departments, department heads and senior officials were also present during the program.
