Bangladesh earned their first victory in the current West Indies tour defeating the hosts by six wickets in the opening one-day international at Guyana on Sunday.
The visitors won the toss and opted to bowl in a game that was shortened to 41 overs per innings due to a wet outfield.In their preferred format, Bangladesh found the optimal approach, with bowlers tightly controlling Windies batsman.
The West Indies struggled to get going and posted 9-149, with No.3 Shamarh Brooks leading the scoring with a 66-ball 33. Tailenders Anderson Phillip (21 not out) and Jayden Seales (16 not out) added 39 runs, with Phillip hitting his team’s only six of the innings at Providence.
Shoriful Islam took 4-34 and Mehidy Hasan Miraz 3-36 in the pick of the Bangladesh bowlers.
The Tigers reached over the ropes with 9.1 overs to spare, scoring 151-4 in 31.5 overs. Mahmudullah laboured to a team-high of unbeaten 41 off 69 deliveries with two fours and a six, and Najmul Hossain Shanto hit a 46-ball 37.
Shanto departed after a 46-ball 37 when he chipped a Gudakesh Motie delivery straight to mid-on. Spinner Gudakesh Motie was economical with a return of 1-18 from nine overs.
On Wednesday, the same ground will host the second of the three ODIs in the series.
