Bangladesh ‘A’ team will start their campaign in South Africa tour today when they take on Irene Villagers Club in the first of their two one-day matches against the side at Pretoria.
Bangladesh ‘A’ will also play a three-day game against the Pretoria-based Irene Villagers Club and a one-day match against Gauteng Strikers before travelling to Zimbabwe for three one-dayers and two four-day games against their local counterparts.
Manager Habibul Bashar said that the players, particularly the bowlers, were enjoying their time in South Africa as they are eager to bowl in the grassy wickets at Irene Villagers Club ground.
‘We need to start positively as it will help to build the momentum,’ Bashar told New Age on Sunday.
‘Though we are not sure of our opponents but still it won’t be a cake walk and we all know that.
‘We practiced here for three days and we know what to expect from here and boys are preparing accordingly,’ he said.

Bangladesh’s limited-over specialist Sabbir Rahman said on Saturday that he has been working hard to secure his position in the Bangladesh Test team by doing well in the upcoming Bangladesh ‘A’ teams tour to Zimbabwe and South Africa. The 23-year old will get the chance to showcase his form and strength to get into the Test squad as he will fly with the ‘A’ team to South Africa and Zimbabwe on October 14 for several longer version games.
The right-handed batsman , who is known for his hard hitting capacity played a few good innings in the recently concluded Bangladesh ‘A’ team’s tour of India and he wants to carry on the good form.
‘I have been trying very hard to get into the Test team’, Sabbir said. ‘I have played ODIs, Twenty20s. I am trying to strengthen my mentality so that I can play in the Test matches.
‘I am trying to follow the great players and learning how they started their career.’
Sabbir also claimed that he has discussed with many great coaches and with their prescriptions he is trying to play with his natural instinct which he believes is the best recipe to get success.
‘I have played four-day matches in National league. My mindset becomes different when I play four-day matches.
‘I discussed with many great coaches about my playing approach and they told me to play my natural game irrespective of the format. I am exactly trying to do so. ‘
The man, who has played an important part in the recent success of Bangladesh team in ODI format is not in a hurry and wants to prolong his career as a Test player even it starts late.
‘I am not in a hurry. I do not want to play for a long time in the national team. I do not want to enter easily and then get dropped, rather I want to stay there for a long time even if it takes long time to enter. ‘
‘I will try to do my best, rest depends on the selectors. I am not setting any goal but I will try to give my best for the team.’

Top-order batting failure made Bangladesh ‘A’ team pay heavily in their India tour, said skipper Mominul Haque, as the players returned home on Wednesday.
The second string Bangladeshi side won just one of their three one-day matches before losing both of their three-day matches, respectively against Ranji Trophy champions Karnataka and India ‘A’.
They earned their only win in the tour thanks to a brilliant all-round performance of Nasir Hossain, who scored an unbeaten century and grabbed five wickets in the same match.
Anamul Haque scored 35 runs in three one-dayers before getting a pair in the only first-class match of the tour. Somuya Sarkar did nothing better, making 34 in three one-dayers and scoring a duck and 19 in the three-day match.
Rony Talukdar could accumulate just 22 runs in the three one-day matches while Mominul also had an unenviable tour with a total of 59 runs in one-day matches.
He had to wait for his only half-century of the tour until the final innings of the three-day match that Bangladesh lost by an innings and 32 runs to their Indian counterparts.
‘Our top-order could not perform,’ Mominul made an honest confession upon team’s arrival at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. ‘You cannot win a match by the contribution of the lower order.
‘If the start is good it gives the lower order some inspiration but that was not the case for us,’ he said.
Chief selector Faruk Ahmed, who went with the team as manager, echoed the same words.
‘You cannot survive if your top-order fails because you are on the back foot from the beginning. From there it is always difficult to make a comeback.’
Faruk emphasised on playing more longer version games in order to do well in this format.
‘We need to play longer version games more because you need to overcome your shortcomings through playing more and more matches and there is no alternative to it.’

Bangladesh ‘A’ team ended their India tour with a humiliating innings and 32-run defeat to India ‘A’ in their final three-day match in Bangalore on Tuesday.
The visitors survived just 39.4 overs in their second innings and got out for 151 runs after another horrible batting display. Skipper Mominul Haque and Liton Das could only show some resistance after they resumed third day’s play on 36-2.
Mominul made highest 54 runs, his only half-century in the tour while Liton added 38 when Bangladesh needed 183 runs in their second innings to make India ‘A’ bat again.
Mominul and Liton took the score to 82 before Liton’s dismissal triggered a collapse.
First Innings centurion Sabbir Rahman could survive just two balls and got out in the same score to become the second wicket of the medium pacer Ishwar Pandey’s over, the 20th of the innings.
Just three overs later visitors lost two more wickets at the same score of 87 when Nasir Hossain and Shuvagata Hom got out for one and zero respectively from the bowling of Abhimanyu Mithun, another right handed seamer.
Mominul made a 33-run sixth wicket partnership with Saqlain Sajib before he left the crease.
Saqlain made 21 runs but that could only delay the inevitable. Bangladesh ‘A’ innings ended with the dismissal of Jubair Hossain as last man Rubel Hossain was unable to turn up due to injury.
Pandey and Jayant Yadav picked up three wickets each while Mithun got two wickets and Rabindra Jadeja grabbed one wicket.
Bangladesh ‘A’ also lost their previous three-day match against Karnataka by four-wicket and suffered 2-1 defeat in the preceding one-day series to India ‘A’.

Shuvagata Hom’s all-round performance kept Bangladesh ‘A’ team in the game after they made a dismal start to the three-day match against Ranji Trophy champions Karnataka on Tuesday at Mysore.
Shuvagata picked up three wickets to restrict the hosts for 163-6 at stumps after he made a fifty to help his side post 158. Having won the toss, Bangladesh ‘A’ skipper Mominul Haque decided to bat first before half of his side were out for just 41 runs.
Opener Rony Talukdar continued his miserable performance in the tour as he was dismissed for a duck in the first ball of the second over after his partner Anamul conceded the first over as maiden.
Mominul soon followed Rony for just one run, the only run scored by the visitors till then.
Liton Das and Anamul made a brief partnership of 26 before the latter was out for five and another Test batsman Soumya Sarker got out in the same score to put Bangladesh into 27-4.
Soumya, who scored a duck, has been consistently failing to score runs throughout the series along with Rony and Anamul leaving Liton and vice captain Nasir Hussain to repair the innings once again.
Nasir, who snatched the only victory for the visitors in the tour, failed this time when he was out for just eight as the fourth victim of teen-age medium pacer Prasidh Krishna.
Liton got out just after his run a ball fifty to reduce the score to 6-76.
Shuvagata fought with the tail-enders to take the score to 148-9 when he was out for 55.
He made the highest partnership of the innings, adding 39 in the ninth wicket stand with Saqlain Sajib who was not out for 15 when last batsman Al-Amin Hossain was out for five in the fourth ball of the 39th over.
Prasidh finished the innings with 5-49 and Udit Patel had 2-11.
Shuvagata and Saqlain once again formed crucial partnership in Indian innings with cherry as both of them picked three wickets apiece.
Left-arm spinner Saqlain gave his team the breakthrough by dismissing Mayank Agarwal when the score was 28 before right handed off-spinner Suvagata picked other opener Ravikumar Samarth to make the score 2-52.
Indian international Robin Uthappa, skipper Chidambaram Gautam and one-down Abshik Reddy got out in quick succession to leave the hosts reduced to 5-75.
Shishir Bhavane steadied the ship with a 25-run partnership with Shreyas Gopal before his unbroken 63-run stand with Jagadeesha Suchith restored their dominance.
Bhavane and Suchith were not out on 55 and 14 respectively at stumps.
Shuvagata ended the day with 29-3 and Saqlain 48-3.

After losing the one-day series against India ‘A’, the touring Bangladesh ‘A’ team will hope that the change of formats will bring fortune when they take on Ranji trophy champions Karnataka in a three-day match starting in Mysore today. In all the three one-day games, the visitors had their moments but failed to capitalise on that and make an impact. The only game they won was due to a brilliant all-round performance from Nasir Hossain, who first scored a brilliant ton and then followed it up with a rare five-wicket haul.
Later, India ‘A’ won the last one-dayer and sealed the series with a dominant performance. Bangladesh ‘A’ know their task will only get tougher against a strong Karnataka side at Mysore.
Karnataka, also called as Mysore, were the team to beat in the 2014-15 domestic season for India. Led by R Vinay Kumar, Karnataka backed up their Ranji Trophy title by winning the Irani Cup earlier in March.
Bangladesh ‘A’ will have their work cut out against the Ranji champions.
Mominul Haque has not been among the runs and will want the internationals in Anamul Haque, Soumya Sarkar and Nasir Hossain raise their game trying to combat Karnataka, who will hope Shreyas Gopal can emulate the success of Karn Sharma and Kuldeep Yadav in the preceding one-dayers
Bangladesh A’s bowling attack will be led by Rubel Hossain after Taskin Ahmed had to return home due to injury.
They might look to play Shuvagata Hom and Arafat Sunny to back the three-pronged pace attack comprising of Rubel, Shafiul Islam and Al-Amin Hossain.
Bangladesh will take on India ‘A’ team for another three-day match after this game to wrap up the series, which is a great chance for most of the players to practice before Tigers’ upcoming two-Test series against Australia at home.

Suresh Raina’s century and another top order failure of Bangladesh ‘A’ side helped India ‘A’ clinched the three-match one-day series, with a 75-run win in the final match in Bangalore on Sunday.
The hosts clinched the series 2-1 after Bangladesh won the second match of the series.
In a rain-hit encounter, Suresh Raina (104) and Sanju Samson (90) powered India ‘A’ to a daunting total of 297-6 before Bangladesh were reduced to 141 – 6 in 32 overs before weather intervention.
Bangladesh were off to a disastrous start when they were left reeling for 6-2 in 3.1 overs before rain first stopped the play.
They were then given a revised target of 290 runs from 46 overs but things hardly improved as the visitors lost another wicket on 24 at ninth over to put themselves into a crisis.
Much like his previous two outings, Liton Das walked out to a tricky situation and looked determined to fight in his brief stay.
Along with skipper Mominul Haque, he accelerated the scoring, taking on Rishi Dhawan with a straight six.
Mominul complemented his efforts at the other end, prompting the India ‘A’ skipper to bring spin into the attack.
The move paid off as chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav derailed Bangladesh ‘A’’s attempt of a comeback by dismissing the two set batsmen – Liton (21) and Mominul (37) – in a span of four overs.
Kuldeep finished with 2-29, along with Sreesanth Aravind (2-14), who was called for Indian Twenty20 squad for the upcoming series against South Africa. They along with Karn Sharma (1-28) restricted the visitors well below their target.
Friday’s centurion Nasir Hossain joined Sabbir Rahman with his side tottering at 77 for five in the 20th over but couldn’t replicate his heroics on Sunday as he was cleaned up by Karn Sharma for 22.
A third rain interruption, a stronger one this time, came with Bangladesh ‘A’ on 141/6 in 32 overs, 75 runs behind the par score.
After a half-an-hour’s delay, the match was called off, handing India a 75-run victory according to Duckworth/Lewis method.
Sabbir was unbeaten 41 when rain stopped the play for the one final time.
Earlier, Raina capped of his final preparation before the South Africa series in style with a century while Sanju Samson showcased his flexibility in the batting order by notching up a well-paced knock of 90 after being promoted up the order.
Bangladesh ‘A’ team will now play a three-day match against Ranji Trophy champions Karnataka in Mysore from September 22-24.

Nasir Hossain put on a brilliant all-round performance as Bangladesh ‘A’ team beat their Indian counterparts by 65 runs in their second one-day match to level the three-match series in Bangalore on Friday.
Nasir struck an unbeaten 102 off 96 balls to help Bangladesh post 252-8 in 50 overs and then grabbed 5-36 to dismiss the hosts for 187 in 42.2 overs.Paceman Rubel Hossain also claimed 4-33 as India ‘A’ collapsed from 2-119 to lose their last eight wickets for 68 runs to hand the visitors a big win in the end.
Nasir also scored 52 runs in the first match that Bangladesh ‘A’ team lost by 96 runs.
He carried his confidence into the match to help Bangladesh ‘A’ recover from yet another poor start after the Indians sent them in at M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Liton Das and Arafat Sunny provided him ample support for the sixth and seventh wicket after the hosts reduced Bangladesh ‘A’ to 5-82.
Soumya Sarkar made 24 off 30 balls while Anamul Haque added 34 off 53 before both of them wasted their start to leave the second string Bangladeshi side in danger of settling with yet another poor score.
But Nasir, who hit 12 fours and a six for his only third List A century, put 70 runs for the sixth wicket with Liton (45) and added a valuable 50 runs for the seventh wicket with Arafat Sunny (17) to give the visitors a competitive score.
India ‘A’ collapsed while chasing when Nasir brought the vital breakthrough that ended an 86-run stand between Unmukt Chand and Manish Pandey that looked to be threatening.
Just when Unmukt and Pandey began to lay the foundation for a potential match-winning stand, Bangladesh ‘A’ were rewarded by Nasir’s golden arm as his tweaker sent Unmukt packing for 56 and gave his side hopes of a comeback.
Rubel managed to jolt India ‘A’s chase as he set Pandey’s middle stump tumbling with a quick, full delivery that whizzed through the big bat pad gap.
Four wickets fell inside six overs as Rubel and Nasir took turns to dismantle the Indian line-up and effectively derail what looked like a straightforward chase.
While the batsmen did not have an answer for Rubel’s pace, their attempt to go after Nasir at the other end proved counter-productive.
The series decider will be played on Sunday.
