A private university student was dead and two of his friends were injured after a truck ran over his bike in Bogura’s Fuldighi area on Bogura-Dhaka highway this evening (May 6, 2022).
The deceased is Md Nowaj Al Saiman Ibne Mojid alias Bappy (25), resident of Fuldighi area under Shajahanpur upazila, reports our Bogura correspondent quoting Hasan Hafizur Rahman, sub-inspector of Koigari Police Outpost.
He was a student of American International University Bangladesh (AIUB).
Two of his friends – Pial and Sakib – were injured in the accident and are undergoing treatment at Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital.
According to the police, Bappy and his friends were heading to Fuldighi area from Bonani on a motorcycle.
A speeding truck from the opposite direction ran them over at around 7:30 pm, leaving the three injured, said police.
Locals rescued them and sent them to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College hospital where the on-duty doctor declared Bappy dead.
Police seized the truck while its driver and helper managed to flee, said the SI.

Two people were killed and two others injured after a bus hit an ambulance carrying a body of a deceased and its family members on the Dhaka-Bogura highway in Sherpur upazila of Bogura yesterday (April 25, 2022) afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Aynal Haque (50) of Kamla Bazar of Gaibandha sadar upazila and ambulance driver Din Mohammad (30) of Kawkhali upazila of Pirojpur, our Bogura correspondent reports quoting Baniul Anam, traffic inspector of Sherpur Highway Police Camp.
Two injured ambulance passengers, including Aynal son Firoz Ali are undergoing treatment at the Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura, said the police official.
The accident happened as the Dhaka-bound Shyamoli Paribahan bus entered on the wrong side of the road and hit the ambulance from the opposite direction, said the police official.
The ambulance was heading towards Gaibandha carrying the body of deceased Aynal Haque’s wife from Dhaka, said the inspector.
Aynal died on the spot and Din Mohammad died on the way to the hospital, added the traffic inspector.
“We seized the bus but its driver managed to flee the scene. The bodies will be handed over after filing a case. The process to file a case in this connection is underway,” added Inspector Baniul.

A battery-run rickshaw puller died after a CNG-run auto-rickshaw hit his vehicle in Dhaka’s Elephant Road area early today.
The deceased was identified as Samirul Kari (30), a resident at Jhaulahati area in Kamrangirchar.
This accident happened around 2:45am near Star Kabab and Restaurant when the speeding auto-rickshaw hit the rickshaw coming from the opposite direction, said Raihan Uddin, a sub-inspector of New Market Police Station.
Samirul was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition and was declared dead by doctors at around 4:00am, he said.
Police seized the auto-rickshaw and detained its driver.
The body has been sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy.

As many as 12 people were killed and 33 injured in road accidents across the country in the last two days, according to reports from our correspondents.
In Habiganj, four people were killed and 30 injured, as two buses and a truck collided in Shaistaganj upazila on Friday night. The accident took place on Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Ulukandi around 10:30pm, said police.
Shaistaganj Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Moinul Islam said, a bus of Ashif Paribahan initially collided head-on with a stone-laden truck. At that time, a bus of Shyamoli Paribahan, while trying to overtake, hit the other bus, he said.
On information, police and firefighters recovered the bodies and sent the injured to Habiganj Sadar Modern Hospital.
Locals blocked Dhaka-Sylhet highway for around half an hour. Later, they cleared the road, following the request of former Ubahata Union Parishad chairperson Rajab Ali and police.
In Netrakona, two people were killed, as a pickup hit a truck from behind on Mymensingh-Netrakona road in Sakua Bazar area yesterday morning, said police.
The deceased — Tariqul Islam (35) from the district’s Kalmakanda upazila, and Md Nuruzzaman (30) from Sunamganj’s Darampasha — were egg traders.
Police seized the vehicles but the drivers managed to flee.
In Mymensingh, a man died after a motorbike ran him over on Mymensingh-Kishoreganj road at Ramgopalpur in Gouripur upazila on Friday night. The motorcyclist was also injured in the incident, said police.
Shams Uddin (60) succumbed to his injuries at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
The injured, whose identity could not be known immediately, was admitted to the hospital.
In Patuakhali, three people were killed and two injured in a collision between a pickup and two motorcycles in Dumki area on Friday night.
The deceased are Bayazid (14), Yusuf (33) and Hira (18), all residents of Dumki.
Police seized the pickup and arrested its driver Zahirul (35) and assistant Zakaria (22).
In another accident, journalist Hasan Parvez (55) died, as a bus hit him while he was crossing a road at Amragachhia in Amtali upazila on Friday night.
In Dinajpur, an engineer of Palli Bidyut Samity was killed after a speeding truck hit his motorbike in Parbatipur upazila yesterday. The deceased — Dibakar Mohanta (30) from the upazila — was an assistant engineer at Panchagarh Palli Bidyut Samity.

The seven sons and only daughter of Suresh Chandra Sheel, who died 10 days ago, went to a local temple on Tuesday morning for offeing puja. On the way home after offering puja four brothers were killed and three of other siblings were injured after a pick-up van ran them over while they were crossing a road at Chakaria upazila in Cox’s Bazar this morning.
The deceased have been identified as Anupam Sheel (47), Nirupam Sheel (45), Deepak Sheel (40) and Champak Sheel (30). Three brothers Smaran Shil, Rakshit Shil and Plavan Shil and sister Hira Shil were injured in the incident. They have been sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
Officer-in-charge of Malumghat Highway Police Station in Chakaria Safayet Hossain said, the accident took place around 5:00am at Malumghat area on Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar Highway when eight siblings were returning home after offering puja at a nearby temple.Police are trying to identify the pick-up van and arrest its driver.
