Russell Domingo was released by the Bangladesh Cricket Board on Monday from his position as the Twenty20 international team’s head coach, but the South African will continue in that position for the Test and one-day international teams.

However, Nazmul Hasan, president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board stated this following a meeting with the coaches on Monday that no one will be certain in the position of head coach for the T20 team.

Domingo was appointed as the head coach of Bangladesh in August 2019. While there have been some memorable successes under him, there have also been notable failures.

He was widely criticised, especially due to the deterioration of the Bangladesh team in T20.

‘There will be no one in the role of head coach in the country’s cricket. Sridharan Sriram, the newly appointed technical consultant for T20, has been given the responsibility of looking after the T20 team. Batting coach and former head coach Jamie Siddons will work to develop the new players. Domingo will primarily work with the Test and ODI teams,’ said Nazmul.

In that case, Domingo will not be with the national team for the next few days. Tigers will be busy only with the T20 format till next November.

As he is not on the coaching panel of the T20 team, he will spend this time on vacation.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has urged pacer Mustafizur Rahman to participate in all three formats of the West Indies Tour in June.
“We have been thinking about it and we want Mustafizur to take part in all three formats from the West Indies series,” BCB sources said.
Fizz, who is currently playing for Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL), is yet to respond to the board’s proposition.
The left-arm paceman has featured in just 14 out of the 39 Tests that Bangladesh played in since his debut back in 2015. He had recently said that he wanted to manage his workload by picking and choosing formats. Following injuries to pacers Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam, who are both unlikely to make it back in time for the West Indies Tests, Fizz’s name once again came back into focus before a red-ball assignment.
The Tigers will travel to West Indies in June to play two Test matches, three ODIs and three T20Is. The first Test is set to be played at Antigua on June 16 followed by the second Test at Saint Lucia on June 24. Bangladesh are set to depart for West Indies on June 6.

Bangladesh Cricket Board has appointed former South Africa pacer Alan Donald as the new pace bowling coach of the national cricket team, confirmed BCB’s cricket operations chairman Jalal Yunus.
Jalal also informed that the former South African fast man has signed a contract with the BCB till the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup, scheduled to be held in Australia from October 16 to November 13.
Donald, who was affectionately called as the ‘The White Lightning’ because of his express pace, is expected to join in the Tigers ahead of their series against South Africa, starting on March 18.
‘Yes, we have appointed him [Alan Donald] as our pace bowling coach till the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup in Australia,’ Jalal told New Age on Friday.
BCB has been seeking for a new pace bowling coach for the national team following the resignation of West Indian Ottis Gibson after the conclusion of the New Zealand series in January.
Meanwhile, BCB shortlisted few names like Sri Lanka’s Chaminda Vas, Australia’s Shaun Tait and India’s Venkatash Prasad as Gibson’s replacement.
But they have ended all the rumours with the signing of legendary South African bowler.

Australia have agreed to compensate Bangladesh for this month’s postponed tour but did not give any dates of their next visit, Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan said on Friday.
‘They apologised to us time and time again for postponing the series,’ said Nazmul after his return from Dubai, where he attended the board meeting of International Cricket Council.‘I spoke to both the next chairman and the incumbent chairman of Cricket Australia in Dubai. The next chairman promised me to work out a date once he returns home,’ he said.
‘The outgoing chairman Wally Edwards also regretted their decision. This was his last ICC meeting. So, there was dinner in his honour. He highly praised Bangladesh and New Zealand cricket teams in his farewell speech.’
Nazmul said Australia agreed to compensate by playing more matches than they were originally scheduled in October. ‘They said when they will tour to subcontinent countries like Sri Lanka they will try to play few matches in Bangladesh.’
Nazmul also confirmed that Zimbabwe hasve agreed tour Bangladesh next month to play some one-day and Twenty20 internationals.
The BCB had invited Zimbabwe to play two Tests in November after Australia had postponed their two-Test series citing security concerns.
However, the plan was altered because of time constraint as Zimbabwe will be busy in a home series against Afghanistan until October 29 and cannot come to Bangladesh before the first week of November.
With Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20 tournament is scheduled from November 20, it has become difficult to accommodate two Test matches during the short period of time.
The BCB, therefore, sent a revised proposal to Zimbabwe requesting the side to play the ODIs and T20Is in November and return for the Tests in November.
‘It is now confirmed that Zimbabwe will come in November and will play some ODIs and Twenty20 Internationals,’ Nazmul told reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.
The BCB president added that South Africa also agreed to send their women’s cricket team soon after they had postponed a planned visit earlier this month following the murder of an Italian and a Japanese citizen.
‘We have sent a revised proposal to them. Once they [Cricket South Africa] give their approval we will announce the fresh dates for the visit of South Africa women’s team,’ said Nazmul.
BCB officials said South Africa women’s team is now expected to arrive on October 28.

The current elected committee of the Bangladesh Cricket Board will complete its two years today feeling fortunate as the on-field success of national cricket team provided a cover for its many failures.
The committee, which was elected on October 10, 2013, had had a turbulent time in its first year at the office when it had to encounter both on and off the field problems.Bangladesh had their longest losing streak in many years in 2014 and had to wait for the home series against Zimbabwe in October to register their first win against a Test playing country in the year.
In the meantime, the BCB had to tackle the Bangladesh Premier League match-fixing issue and take a disciplinary action against country’s premier cricketer Sakib al Hasan at least twice.
It also had to take a position in the International Council, which saw a massive constitutional change with the so-called Big Three India, Australia and England taking control of the of body.
However, things changed dramatically at the Bangladesh Cricket Board office at Mirpur after national team started to bring some success starting with the Zimbabwe series.
The BCB deserved some credit for the changes as it took a serious gamble which paid off to an unthinkable level.
The decision to split the national team captaincy proved to be a masterstroke as Mashrafee bin Murtaza changed the complexion of limited-over side after taking over from Mushfiqur Rahim.
BCB’s decision to send the Tigers to Australia for the World Cup early also reaped rich benefits as Bangladesh achieved their maiden quarter-final berth in the tournament.
It raised the confidence of the Tigers, who later crushed Pakistan, India and South Africa in consecutive series to move to seventh in one-day rankings and qualify for the 2017 Champions Trophy.
But all of these successes came at an expense.
The BCB officials were mostly busy basking in the success having been oblivious of their other responsibilities that may hurt Bangladesh’s cricket in the long run.
Nazmul Hasan, the first elected BCB president, has become increasingly authoritarian, creating rifts within the BCB. Nazmul appeared to have interfered in everything, starting from who to speak in the press conference to who will play in a certain game or who will make a certain tour.
It left some of his veteran BCB colleagues feeling alienated as they have virtually no job to do.
While the BCB has a constitutional obligation of holding at least one meeting every month, it could hold just 12 in the past 24 months with the last two meetings having a six-month gap.
As a result, BCB had to give post-facto approval for many financial dealings, including dozens in the last meeting that raised a question about transparency.
The BCB formed a working committee in January with Enayet Hossain Siraj as its chairman. The committee had the authority to make decisions on behalf of the executive committee, but not a single meeting of the working committee was held in last eight months.
There has been no progress in forming the regional cricket associations, which is another constitutional obligation for the BCB. A welfare trust for cricketers, coaches and umpires that had been proposed by the previous board is also yet to see the light.
The BCB also demonstrated massive failure in the marketing front as it could not sell a Bangladesh Cricket League franchise even in two years. The television and marketing deal that it struck with a local channel also yielded half-the price of an estimation made by an Australian consultant, hired by the board.
When Nazmul took over as elected president, he promised to run the board in a professional manner, bring transparency and establish accountability for everyone involved.
With the board completing half of its four-year tenure, professionalism, transparency and accountability are among the few things mostly missing.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board is trying to bring Zimbabwe in November for playing a Test series as it is trying to split the upcoming home series, said an official on Saturday.
The BCB decided to propose for the new arrangement to the Zimbabwe Cricket Board as the Cricket Australia postponed their tour on security reasons, giving Tigers ample of time at present.
Initially Bangladesh and Zimbabwe were scheduled to play three Tests and seven one-day internationals in January but BCB proposed to alter the itinerary as per the request of the team-management.
According to an earlier revised plan, the Tigers were set to play two Test matches along with three ODIs and three Twenty20 internationals from January 11 to February 7.
However, BCB now wants to play the Test series in November and carry on the ODI’s and Twenty20 internationals according to the earlier plan.
‘We proposed to host the Test series in November,’ BCB cricket operation chairman Naimur Rahman told New Age on Saturday.
‘As we don’t have the Australia series we want to play the Test series in November and carry on the rest of the series as per schedule,’ said Naimur.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board on Thursday regretted the decision of Cricket Australia to postpone the two-Test series against Tigers for safety concern, saying it was sad and unfortunate.
‘Many countries now face these kinds of threat for terror attacks, but we don’t see cricket getting stopped. It is being played everywhere,’ BCB president Nazmul Hasan said at an impromptu press conference at his residence in Dhaka after CA had conveyed its decision.
‘The kind of security that we offered, blanket security, or VVIP security or state level security, I don’t see any chance of the matches getting interrupted after that. It was impossible.
‘If you see the history of Bangladesh, here these kinds of incident never happened and I don’t see any chance of it happening now.
‘If we were unprepared that is one thing. But having taken all kinds of precaution, there is no chance of anything happening in Bangladesh.
‘Still they postponed the tour, we are very sad for that. Bangladesh’s cricket was passing a very good time. At this point of time, this kind of development is sad, unfortunate,’ said Nazmul, surrounded by BCB directors.
The mood in BCB turned somber after CA informed the officials of its decision around 4:00pm dashing all hopes. The BCB was hoping a last-minute change in heart by the CA after it had delayed the decision.
But CA found no reason to proceed with the tour.
‘We had hoped that the security concerns would fade, but unfortunately the advice we have received from government… has clearly indicated that there are now high risks to our people should they make the trip,’ CA chief executive James Sutherland told reporters in Melbourne.
Nazmul argued that Bangladesh was not the only country at risk.
‘They have prepared a list and England is next to Bangladesh and then US. But did we see no sports taking place on those countries,’ he asked.
In the terror index we are at number 23. India is at number six. The first alert that Australia issued for Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka were at the same level.
‘Now there is no cricket in Pakistan, Are we going to stop cricket in Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka everywhere?’ questioned the BCB president, promising to raise the issue in next International Cricket Council meeting in Dubai later this month.
‘This is a major issue and I have to talk with ICC about it in the next meeting,’ he said.
The BCB president added that he will also discuss about rescheduling the series with his Australian counterpart on the sideline of ICC meeting, scheduled from October 9-13.
‘We will discuss how this series can be rescheduled. The kind of relationship that we have with cricket Australia, I am hopeful we will find a window…our main objective is how quick we can bring back cricket in Bangladesh,’ said the BCB president, who does not see a long-term impact of the decision.
‘This alert is up to mid October. It’s not for eternal period,’ he said.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board on Tuesday was hoping against hope to revive the home series against Australia after a series of events over the last few days has thrown it into serious doubt.
Cricket Australia has not communicated with the BCB about its decision till late in the evening of Tuesday, leaving BCB in an awkward situation as it cannot go ahead with the preparation of the series.
Reports coming from Australia suggested that the series in all likelihood could be scrapped despite repeated assurance of top-level security by the Bangladesh authorities.
The killing of an Italian national in top-security diplomatic zone on Monday night and the reported claim of Islamic States, an international militant group about the responsibility of the murder also did not help BCB’s cause.
A travel warning issued by United Kingdom and United States has only worsened the matter.
The UK in its travel warning on Monday advised its officials to limit attendance at events where westerners may gather.
The US separately noted there was ‘reliable new information to suggest that militants may be planning to target Australian interests in Bangladesh’.
‘Such attacks, should they occur, could likely affect other foreigners, including US citizens,’ the US Department of State bulletin stated.
The US banned all its government personnel in Bangladesh from attending large gatherings, including events at international hotels.
As a direct consequence of the warning the American Club in Dhaka and some international schools were declared closed.
Despite all these developments, the BCB president Nazmul Hasan on Tuesday said he finds no reason
why Australia should abandon their tour to Bangladesh.
‘It would be very unfortunate,’ Nazmul told reporters at his residence. ‘I don’t see any reason why they won’t arrive. We assured them four-layer security.’
Nazmul said it will take at least two days two know the decision of Cricket Australia.
The CA was expected to be briefed by its security chief Sean Carroll and two other officials, who held a series of meetings with Bangladesh authorities earlier this week.
Carroll, team manager Gavin Dovey and team’s security manager Frank Dimasi have all left Dhaka on Monday night in further blow to BCB, who were caught unaware of their schedule.
While Carroll was scheduled to leave on Monday, the BCB had expected manager Dovey and security manager Dimasi to stay as they are also part of the Australian team.
‘I don’t know why they have decided to leave. It’s entirely their decision,’ said Nazmul.
A BCB official, asking not to be quoted, said manager Dovey promised him to come back in two days, but things changed quickly following the murder of an Italian citizen.
‘At the time of his departure by Singapore Airlines flight at 11:55pm, he was unaware of the news. I am not sure whether he still maintains the same position,’ he said.
The BCB said the Australians were particularly worried about the security of the annual glitter ball programme, a gala event which is scheduled on October 2 at a posh hotel in Dhaka.
