Dr. Ali bin Saeed bin Al Samikh Al Marri, Qatar’s minister of labor, said Wednesday that Qatar wants to hire skilled and semi-skilled people from Bangladesh in the industries of medicine, hospitality, driving, and information technology.

He made this statement while speaking with Minister Imran Ahmad of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment and Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen.

According to a statement from the foreign ministry, Marri informed Momen during a courtesy call at the State Guest House Padma that Qatar would like to hire workers in certain disciplines soon.

Momen informed him of the plans taken by government of Bangladesh for skill development to satisfy rising demand. In providing LNG to Bangladesh, he was grateful for the assistance of the government of Qatar.

For the purpose of resolving the Rohingya crisis, the foreign minister requested political and financial cooperation from the government of Qatar.

Momen emphasized the prospects for trade and investment in Bangladesh and asked Qatar to invest there, particularly in the Special Economic Zones.

The labor minister for Qatar stated that they would actively investigate investment opportunities in Bangladesh.

The Qatari government takes legal action against employers who breach workers’ rights.

The Qatari government, he added, has established a welfare fund for employees, and in the case that an employer fails to pay an employee’s wages, the employee will be compensated from the fund.

Furthermore, he emphasized that the Bangladeshi laborers obey Qatari legislation.

Foreign workers would now be entitled to the same rights as Qatari workers, according to Marri, who stated this in a separate meeting with Minister of Expatriates Welfare Imran Ahmad.
