Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has urged pacer Mustafizur Rahman to participate in all three formats of the West Indies Tour in June.
“We have been thinking about it and we want Mustafizur to take part in all three formats from the West Indies series,” BCB sources said.
Fizz, who is currently playing for Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL), is yet to respond to the board’s proposition.
The left-arm paceman has featured in just 14 out of the 39 Tests that Bangladesh played in since his debut back in 2015. He had recently said that he wanted to manage his workload by picking and choosing formats. Following injuries to pacers Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam, who are both unlikely to make it back in time for the West Indies Tests, Fizz’s name once again came back into focus before a red-ball assignment.
The Tigers will travel to West Indies in June to play two Test matches, three ODIs and three T20Is. The first Test is set to be played at Antigua on June 16 followed by the second Test at Saint Lucia on June 24. Bangladesh are set to depart for West Indies on June 6.

Bangladesh Cricket Board is set to hold an in-person meeting with Shakib Al Hasan within a couple of days to know his next one-year plan before they sew up the central contract of the Tigers for 2022.
BCB’s cricket operations chairman Mohammad Jalal Yunus further informed the reporters on Monday at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium press box that they will act accordingly after they are finished with the assignation with the southpaw.
‘We are going to sit with Shakib Al Hasan within the next two days to know his plans for the next one year ahead of the central contract of the national team players for this year.’
The ace all-rounder who was expected to pull him out from the forthcoming two Tests against South Africa starting in the later part of March freshly submitted a letter to the BCB president Nazmul Hasan notifying his unwillingness to play Test cricket for the next six months.
With the conclusion of the central contract of the Tigers soon in mind the BCB is now keen to know his plan in detail if he would be available for all of the Bangladesh’s forthcoming matches.
‘In the meeting we will be aiming to know details from him if he is available for all formats alongside the matches ahead of this year. We will put him in the central contract dully,’ said Jalal.
Earlier in 2021, Nazmul told that the players who belong to the central contract must let the board know prior to their other occupancy when Shakib stepped aside from the Test series with their Sri Lanka counterpart held in April.
That is not the end of Shakib’s negation for playing in the Test format. In 2017, he showed his reluctance to take part in the red-ball cricket against South Africa due to Indian Premier League commitment.

Bangladesh are ready to play a series in December involving India if they are formally invited, said a senior official of the Bangladesh Cricket Board on Sunday.
The talk of a series in December is hovering around for the last few days after it was reported that India are reluctant to play against Pakistan in December as planned earlier.India were due to play a bilateral series against Pakistan in December at Dubai but they reportedly said ‘no’ to their volatile neigbours, opening the door for Bangladesh to play some matches against them.
The speculation is that Bangladesh could be invited by India to play a bilateral series in their country or could be added as the third team in a tri-series, involving both India and Pakistan.
The tri-series could be held in Dhaka or Dubai.
BCB chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury did not completely deny the speculation but added that they are yet to get any formal invitation from any country.
‘Possibly the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is discussing if the matter is really true. But we haven’t got any formal invitation from any quarter to host the tri-nation series’ he said.
‘We have a slot in hand. So, we can’t ignore any possibility of it. Only the host nation will tell who will be the participants,’ said Nizamuddin.
‘We held discussions not only with BCCI but also with other boards of the world cricket. In fact, we’re mulling over playing some away games in December,’ he said.
Nizamuddin also did not rule out the chance of a tri-series involving West Indies and Zimbabwe in November.
‘We didn’t close the discussion to host the tri-nation with the involvement of the West Indies and Zimbabwe,’ said Nizamuddin.
‘West Indies are busy in playing in Sri Lanka. We didn’t get any decision from the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB),’ he said.
West Indies will play their last match in Sri Lanka on November 12 and will visit Australia in December. In between they have a small window which BCB is looking to use.
Officials indicated if West Indies agree to play the series, the Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20 tournament could be deferred two days from its original starting date of November 22.
Bangladesh are also expected to host Zimbabwe in November, but Nizamuddin said they are yet to finalise the number of matches for the series.
‘The number of matches for the upcoming home series against Zimbabwe in November will be fixed after the consultation of our team management and head coach,’ he said.
‘We are now doing this work. Hopefully we could sort out within the next two days,’ he said.
‘The Test series will be held in January, 2016. We have every possibility to play a couple of Twenty20 matches alongside Test matches ahead of the next ICC World Twenty20 2016,’ he added.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board will hold a crucial meeting today with former national captain Naimur Rahman finally getting a chance to raise his voice over certain issues that had undermined his authority as cricket operations chief. Naimur appeared unhappy as BCB president Nazmul Hasan recently overruled some of his recommendations regarding the appointment of Bangladesh ‘A’ team coach and manager.
Naimur wanted Sarwar Imran and Habibul Bashar as coach and manager for the recent India series but Nazmul appointed Heath Streak and Faruk Ahmed for the posts ignoring his recommendations.
Similarly Naimur had preferred Imran and Minhajul Abedin as the coach and manager for the ‘A’ team’s upcoming series against South Africa and Zimbabwe but his recommendations were ignored this time too.
National fielding coach Richard Halsall was selected as the coach while Bashar will be touring as the manager.
Naimur is also irked by the carefree attitude of national coach Chandika Hathurusinghe, who, despite working directly under him, often ignored the former captain allegedly because of his backing from Nazmul.
BCB president Nazmul on the other hand recently rebuked Naimur for his inability to hold a co-ordination meeting compromising with head coach Chandika Hathurusinghe and his support staff and the players.
The issues could be up for discussion in what is the 12th board of directors’ meeting since the present committee took over in October 2013.
The meeting was called at a time when Bangladesh’s cricket entered in a crisis period following the postponement of Australia cricket team and South Africa women’s team’s visit.
The BCB is expected to discuss the ramification of the events and its strategy about tackling the situation. The meeting will also finalise issues involving upcoming Bangladesh Premier League.

Australia were ‘overly sensitive’ to postpone their tour of Bangladesh over security concerns, says Pakistan Cricket Board president Shahryar Khan, reports BCC Online.
Bangladesh police are investigating the murder of an Italian aid worker who was shot on Monday, with the Islamic State group saying it is responsible. The two-Test series was due to begin in Chittagong on Friday, 9 October.
‘One man gets killed, an Italian, and the tour is off. We’ve had 50,000 people killed in Pakistan,’ Khan said.
Khan was referring to figures estimating the number of ‘fatalities in terrorist violence’ in Pakistan since 2003.
In May, Pakistan hosted their first home full international fixture since gunmen attacked a bus carrying the Sri Lanka team on its way to play in Lahore in 2009.
‘A certain amount of tension is likely through terrorism, but they have to trust the Bangladeshis, the Indians, the Sri Lankans and Pakistanis. We give them 100 per cent protection,’ Khan added.
‘Some of the countries, like Australia and New Zealand, are perhaps oversensitive.’
Cricket Australia had initially delayed the team’s scheduled departure on 28 September while it worked on a ‘revised security plan’.
But it now says that official advice means it had ‘no alternative but to postpone the tour’.
England are due to tour Bangladesh to play two Tests and three one-day internationals in October and November 2016.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board did not give up their hope to revive the home series against Australia despite Cricket Australia asked its cricketers on Wednesday to leave the camp to join their state teams.
The BCB was expecting the CA to give a decision today when it sits in a meeting with outcome of a visit of its security chief, Sean Carroll, and two other officials to Bangladesh. The Australia team was scheduled to depart on Monday for a two-Test series but it was told to stay back after the Australian government warned about a potential security risk from militants.
The killing of an Italian citizen in top-security zone in Dhaka coupled with security warning from UK, US and Canada only made the tour increasingly uncertain as Australia ponders its move.
However, the BCB officials are not ready to call it an end before an official announcement comes.
‘It still stands where it was,’ BCB chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury told reporters on Wednesday.
‘It is right that they have sent their players for state teams but that does not imply the tour is cancelled.’
Nizamuddin said they are yet to think about compensation in case the series is cancelled as Bangladesh has historical cricketing relationship with Australia.
‘It’s too early to think negatively. They have been our friends for years and all of a sudden we just cannot say everything has changed,’ he said.
‘So there is no reason to think beyond the series.’
The BCB has offered a higher level of security for Australian players and Nizamuddin said this is what they could do best.
‘To be honest this kind of security is not provided to any teams in the world,’ said Nizamuddin.
‘We have hosted the World Twenty20 where 24 teams were involved. We did that successfully, so there is no reason why we cannot give the security to just one team,’ he said.
The BCB chief executive however admitted they already started thinking alternative plans if Australia ultimately cancel the tour.
‘At the moment, our plan is to release the players for National Cricket League,’ he said, referring to the second round of first-class competition, which gets underway on October 3.

Pakistan requested Bangladesh to play a full-fledged international series in United Arab Emirates in December, said the officials of Bangladesh Cricket Board on Monday.
Pakistan is originally scheduled to host India for two Tests, five one-day internationals and three Twenty20 internationals during the period, but the fate of the series have been in severe doubt following the recent tensions in the frontiers between the two countries.
A secretary-level peace talks between India and Pakistan were cancelled at the eleventh hour in last week and it followed the deadliest border shooting in recent months killing scores.
As a result the resumption of cricketing ties between India and Pakistan became uncertain. Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Shaharyar Khan in a recent interview told ESPNCricinfo that they can survive without playing against India, a comment which only highlighted the growing tensions between the neighbours.
Without mentioning any specific date, BCB officials said they received the proposal very recently, which left them in a tricky position as the schedule of the series clashes with that of third Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20 tournament.
BCB’s cricket operations chief Naimur Rahman confirmed to have received the proposal but added that it is difficult to accept in the current scenario.
‘We have received the proposal from PCB. But it is unlikely that we can accept it as we have BPL scheduled during that period,’ Naimur told New Age.
BCB chief executive officer Nizamuddin Chowdhury said the proposal came through an informal channel and it is at the very premature stage now.
‘There is nothing really to comment about it as it is in a very premature stage now,’ said Nizamuddin.
The BCB officials meanwhile said they are still considering sending the women’s cricket team to Pakistan, subject to the security clearance.
Bangladesh women’s team had been scheduled to tour Pakistan from August 31 to September 11 for three ODI’s and three Twenty20s, but the series is stalled in the wake of Punjab home minister’s assassination.
A four-member delegate, headed by BCB’s security consultant major (retired) Hossain Imam, is waiting for government’s clearance before traveling to Pakistan to assess the security situation.
If everything goes fine, Bangladesh women cricket team may travel to Pakistan on September 27, said the official.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board is divided into two camps over giving the old franchises of the Bangladesh Premier League another chance provided they clear their dues.
BCB officials said apart from Dhaka Gladiators and Khulna Royal Bengals the owners of all other franchises have contacted with them and expressed their interests to stay involved with the tournament.
The owners of Rangpur Riders and Sylhet Royals publicly expressed their interests and said they will clear out the payments to get back their ownerships.
With holders Gladiators barred from participating because of their involvement in match-fixing scandal, the BCB asked six other franchises to clear their dues by August 27.
BPL governing council secretary Ismail Haider Mallick said on Sunday that he is in favour of retaining the franchises considering the humanitarian ground provided they fulfill all conditions.
‘If they can pay their old dues and also fulfill the other conditions required to own a new franchise,’ said Mallick. ‘Of course this is my personal opinion as the final decision will be taken by the board.’
‘They had spent lots of money in the first two editions and now if we don’t allow them to take part despite clearing their dues it will be an injustice,’ he said.
BCB insiders said the BCB is also considering the legal aspects as some of the old franchises already threatened to take legal action if they are not allowed to play in the tournament despite clearing all their dues.
The BCB already admitted that despite all the fuss involving the tournament it has proved to be a profitable venture and it insiders said they don’t want to drag it to the court which can make the next edition uncertain.
Mallick said that the BCB already profited Tk 15 to 16 crore from the tournament and if all the franchises clear their dues the profit will augment to approximately Tk 50 crore.
BCB president Nazmul Hasan on Saturday informed that six franchises owed TK 36 crore to the BCB.
Nazmul however did not make it clear whether they will allow the old franchises in the next addition.
Asked about the issue, BCB chief executive officer Nizamuddin Chowdhury said if the old franchises clear their payment they will be definitely included in the bidding process.
They will be surely included in the bidding process if they complete the payment. But there is no guarantee that they will get the same franchise as it is completely a new bidding,’ he said.
‘We will judge every bid according to its merit.’
The BCB already wooed 11 new bidders for the franchises, though it was alleged that some defaulters are trying to get involved under the fresh banner.
Mizanur Rahman, once a co-owner of Sylhet Royals, submitted a fresh bid under the guise of Sohana Group.
BPL governing council chairman Afzalur Rahman said that he is still unsure how they will consider his bid.
‘Mizan informed us that he has parted away with Sylhet Royals through a letter. But still we have to be careful about him as it’s all about the reputation of the owners that is our most important consideration,’ he said.

Companies that have submitted Expression of Interest to own a franchise of the Bangladesh Premier League have been asked to submit their pay-order and bank guarantee by August 30, said the Bangladesh Cricket Board officials on Thursday. The BCB on August 18 announced that 11 companies have shown their interest to own a franchise of BPL, which will be resumed in November after a gap of two years.
The BCB had earlier terminated its contact with all the seven franchises of previous editions over payment dispute.
‘We have asked them to submit their bank guarantee and pay-order by August 30,’ BPL governing council chairman Afzalur Rahman told New Age on Thursday.
‘Let us see their response and later we will decide whom to award the franchises,’ he said.
BCB asked for a pay-order of Tk 1 crore and demanded a bank guarantee of Tk 4.5 crore.
The companies that have submitted their bids are — Beximco Group, Mediacom on behalf of Square, DBL Group, Sohana Group of Industries, Blues Communications, BBS Cables, Index
Group, Axiom Technologies, Bengal Communications, Networld Bangladesh Limited and Fiber @home Limited.
Meanwhile, some former franchises are also showing their interest to return back in BPL by clearing their past dues.
Officials of Rangpur Riders said they
started clearing their dues and hoped that the BCB would give them another chance.
The BCB did not reject the idea outright but said they can consider the matter only all payments are cleared.
‘Until we award the franchise to a new company there remains always a chance for them. But before we consider the matter they must clear all the payments,’ said BPL governing council secretary Ismail Haider Mallick.
