Book on Tagore launchedBangla Academy has launched a book titled ‘Rabindranath Tagore and National Identity Formation in Bangladesh: Essays and Reviews’ by professor Fakrul Alam on Thursday evening at
Abdul Karim Sahittabisharad Hall.
The launching ceremony started with a Tagore song Tumi kemon kore gaan koro hey guni in trio by Salma Shofi, Golam Rabbani Shihab and Sibesh Kirtoniya. Presentation of the song on piano was a wonderful start to the rainy evening for the guests present.
Followed by the discussion session, prominent singer Sibesh Kirtoniya presented a mystic number of Tagore titled Jogoter anondo joggye amar nimontron dhonno and Shahnaz Nasrin Ela melodiously rendered Ami kan pete roi o amar apon gohin darey, which is also a popular song of the legend.
Eminent Tagore singer Shama Rahman rendered O je mane na mana. Accompanied by piano, her mellifluous voice created a soothing atmosphere in the hall.
Golam Rabbani Shihab sang a monsoon number of Tagore, Esho shamolo sundoro and Salma Shofi presented Timir o ratri andho jatri sommukhe tobo.
The programme concluded with Jodi tor dak shune kew na ashe tobe ekla cholo re in chorus.
Director General of Bangla Academy Shamsuzzaman Khan, Chairman of Asiatic Society Nazrul Islam, Syed Manjurul Islam and professor Anisuzzaman were present at the discussion session.
