Pace bowler Shahadat Hossain has no bar on playing in the upcoming National Cricket League despite him facing the arrest for allegedly beating his domestic help, said a Bangladesh Cricket Board official on Thursday. ‘He can participate in the National Cricket League, there is no problem with it,’ Sheikh Sohel, the chairman of BCB’s disciplinary committee, told reporters at Mirpur.
‘His personal action has got no connection with cricket.’
Shahadat went into hiding since a case was filed against him and his wife under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act at Mirpur police station on Sunday for beating their 11-year old domestic help Mahfuza Akter Happy.
The BCB had earlier said it is embarrassed by the allegation against Shahadat, who played 38 Tests and 51 ODIs.
Sohel, also a BCB director, said since there is no formal arrest warrant against him BCB has no problem allowing Shahadat playing in the NCL, beginning on September 18.
‘There is no warrant issued against him,’ said Sohel.
‘First, let a warrant gets issued and then we will look after the matter,’ he said.
