The idea of spending lots of money on a wedding is nothing new, however, a California couple has gone viral on social media for taking the opposite approach.The couple, Kiara and Joel Brokenbrough of Los Angeles,wanted to be “as minimal as possible” when planning their wedding, spending less than US$500 in total for everything. This includes Kiara’s US$47 dress, which she purchased from the e-commerce website Shein.
“I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on a dress because I had the mindset I’m going to wear this one time for a few hours,” she said during an interview with ‘Good Morning America’.
“Our goal was to just be as minimal as possible and to spend the least amount of money as possible.”
The couple also managed to cut down the costs by making use of a free area off the Angeles Crest Highway. They invited around 30/40 family and friends, who paid for their own food and drinks to help make the event as budget friendly as possible.
“The people we have there, they understood the assignment, they understood the things that we were trying to do, and they really supported us,” Kiara explained.
Apart from Instagram, the video of their low-cost wedding and dress was also posted on TikTok, Instagram and YouTube where they amassed more than one million views.
