Will Smith apologised to Chris Rock once again for slapping the comedian at this year’s Oscars ceremony. The actor previously issued a statement after the film academy said it might take action against Smith for an incident that overshadowed the industry’s top awards.

The actor, in a post on Instagram, said his behavior at the televised ceremony was “unacceptable and inexcusable.”

On Friday morning, Smith released a video to his nearly 10-million-subscriber-strong YouTube channel, titled, ‘It’s been a minute…”. Over the course of about six minutes, Smith participates in a slightly odd, self-led Q&A session about

anything and everything Slap. The first question asks why he didn’t apologize to Chris Rock in his acceptance speech, when he won Best Actor for his role in King Richard, just shortly after the altercation.

“I was fogged out by that point,” Smith said. “It’s all fuzzy. I’ve reached out to Chris and the message that came back is that he’s not ready to talk, and when he is he will reach out. So I will say to you, Chris, I apologize to you.”

For what it’s worth, Rock hasn’t said much about the incident, aside from a few odd jokes during his standup tour. During a show on July 24, Rock quipped, “Anyone who says words hurt has never been punched in the face… Yeah, that shit hurt. But I shook that shit off and went to work the next day… I don’t go to the hospital for a paper cut.”

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has banned Will Smith from all Academy events for 10 years for slapping Chris Rock during this year’s show.
Will Smith is no longer allowed to “attend any Academy events or programs, in person or virtually,” for the next decade.
In a statement, the Academy said the 94th Oscars had been “overshadowed by the unacceptable and harmful behaviour we saw Mr Smith exhibit on stage”.
Smith has apologised for his actions and resigned from the Academy.
The Academy Of Motion Picture Arts and Science, which organises the awards ceremony, met virtually on Friday to discuss disciplinary action.
In its statement, it said banning Smith was aimed at protecting performers and guests and “restoring trust in the Academy”.
The Academy said that at the time of the slap it did not “adequately address the situation in the room” and had been “unprepared for the unprecedented”. It apologised for this.
It also thanked Rock for “maintaining his composure under extraordinary circumstances”.
The Academy’s disciplinary review over the incident, originally scheduled for 18 April, was fast-tracked after Smith resigned.
In his resignation statement, Smith said he had “betrayed the trust of the Academy” and was “heartbroken” over his actions.
He added he would “fully accept any and all consequences for my conduct”.
Beyond the Academy’s actions, at least two studios – Sony and Netflix – are pausing their projects with Smith.
Rock, who began his latest stand up comedy tour shortly after the Oscars telecast, has not commented publicly on the slap.
He told fans at a show last month that he is “still kind of processing what happened” and will talk about the incident “at some point”.
Will Smith accepts his decade-long ban from the Academy Awards.
Smith, 53, said in a statement via his rep, “I accept and respect the Academy’s decision.”

The backlash following the infamous slap Will Smith laid on Chris Rock at the Oscars continues. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix has pushed back one of Smith’s upcoming films.
Netflix is backing away from Fast and Loose, set to “tell the story of a crime boss who loses his memory after an attack,” The Hollywood Reporter said Sunday. The project lost its director shortly before the Oscars. Netflix had “put out an urgent call for another director to take over” but appears to have moved the project to
the back burner after the incident, the website reports.
Additionally, Smith had received 40 pages of the script for Bad Boys 4 prior to the Oscars, but work on the movie will now pause, the website reported, citing an unnamed source.
As of now, Smith’s next starring role is in the film Emancipation, where the actor portrays a runaway slave who journey through Louisiana swamps to escape plantation owners. That Antoine Fuqua-directed movie, currently in post-production, was scheduled to premiere on Apple TV+ in 2022, but no release date has been
set yet.
According to IMDB, Smith – in the role of producer – still has plenty of projects on the horizon in various states of development, but the fate of those films and TV shows is now in flux following the fallout of Smith’s infamous Oscars moment.
On Friday, Smith resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in a statement where he accepted “all consequences for my conduct.”
“My actions at the 94th Academy Awards presentation were shocking, painful, and inexcusable,” Smith wrote. “The list of those I have hurt is long and includes Chris, his family, many of my dear friends and loved ones, all those in attendance, and global audiences at home. I betrayed the trust of the Academy. I deprived
other nominees and winners of their opportunity to celebrate and be celebrated for their extraordinary work.”
Smith continued, “I am heartbroken… Change takes time and I am committed to doing the work to ensure that I never again allow violence to overtake reason.”

Oscars’ guests and viewers are still reeling over Will Smith’s surprising and infamous onstage slap of comedian Chris Rock, who joked about Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair. Shortly after, Smith went onstage to accept the Best Actor Oscar for his role in King Richard.
Will Packer, producer of the Academy Award ceremony, told the ABC News show Good Morning America that until the slap, the show’s producers were ecstatic about how well the evening had been proceeding. ” It was like someone poured concrete in that room,” he said. “It was this feeling of — what just happened? Is this
real? How am I supposed to react? So it sucked the life out of that room and it never came back.”
Packer told GMA that Los Angeles police officers were ready to arrest Will Smith if Rock wanted to press charges.
“They were saying, ‘This is battery.’ That was the word they used in that moment,” Packer told T.J. Holmes, in an exclusive interview that was teased during ABC’s World News Tonight. “They said, ‘We will go get him. We are prepared. We will go get him right now. You can press charges. We can arrest him. They were laying
out the options. And as they were talking, Chris was, he was being very dismissive of those options. He was like, ‘No, I’m fine.’ He was like, ‘no, no, no.’ And even to the point where I said, ‘Rock, let them finish.'”
In the clip, Packer said after the officers finished laying out what Rock’s options were, “they said, ‘Would you like us to take any action? And he said no.'”
Packer also said he did not speak to Smith at all on Oscar night. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences released a statement saying Smith was asked to leave the ceremony and refused.
In his acceptance speech, Smith apologized to the Academy and his fellow nominees for the incident, but not Rock. On Instagram the following day, Smith wrote that he was embarrassed by his behavior and told Rock he was sorry. Still, the Academy began disciplinary proceedings against Smith– which could include
“suspension, expulsion, or other sanctions permitted.”
SAG-AFTRA is also weighing sanctions against Smith.
On Wednesday night, Rock was onstage in Boston with a new comedy routine. He didn’t say much about the slap. “I’m still kind of processing what happened,” he said, adding that at some point he will talk about it “and it will be serious and funny.”

Will Smith apologized late Monday afternoon for his actions at Sunday night’s Oscars, in which he slapped presenter Chris Rock on the main stage in response to a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith.
“I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris,” Smith wrote in an Instagram post. “I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.”
Smith said that he “reacted emotionally” after hearing Rock’s joke.
“Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally.”

Smith didn’t publicly apologize to Rock during the show, but when accepting his award for Best Actor, the actor did say he was sorry to the Academy and his fellow nominees during his speech.
“I want to apologize to the Academy. I want to apologize to all of my fellow nominees. This is a beautiful moment, and I’m not crying for winning an award,” he said.
“It’s not about winning an award for me; it’s about being able to shine a light on all of the people.”
The Academy also announced on Monday that they would be conducting a “formal review” to “explore consequences” after Smith’s actions.
New statement from academy:
“The Academy condemns the actions of Mr. Smith … We have officially started a formal review around the incident and will explore further action and consequences in accordance with our Bylaws, Standards of Conduct and California law”

At Sunday night’s Oscar ceremony, Will Smith shocked the room by approaching the stage and slapping presenter Chris Rock in the face after the comedian made a joke about Smith’s wife, actor Jada Pinkett Smith.
Rock was on the Oscar stage to present the award for best documentary. He began by making a few jokes about members of the show’s audience, including Pinkett Smith—referring to her as “G.I. Jane” due to her closely cropped hair. (Pinkett Smith has spoken in the past about her battle with alopecia.) Shortly after Rock
made the
joke, Smith walked to the stage and slapped the comedian across the face. He then returned to his seat and shouted, “Keep my wife’s name out of your fucking mouth.”
At first, watching the telecast, it was unclear whether the assault was a planned bit. But the show’s audio immediately cut out after Smith slapped Rock, then stayed muted as Rock said, “Will Smith just smacked the shit out of me,” while Smith walked away. When Smith yelled from his seat, Rock, still onstage, seemed stunned.
“Wow, dude,” replied Rock “It was a G.I. Jane joke.”
The moment was all the more surreal given the fact that Smith was nominated for his turn in Warner Bros.’ sports drama King Richard and would later return to the stage to claim the award for Best Actor, as predicted.
Later, when Smith returned to claim the prize for Best Actor, he chose to address the moment with Rock. “I want to apologize to The Academy; I want to apologize to all of my fellow nominees,” he said through tears. “I hope the Academy invites me back.” Smith, it should be noted, did not apologize on stage to Rock.
