Bangladesh Open University vice-chancellor Syed Humayun Akhtar inaugurated Cleanliness Week 2022 at the Gazipur campus on Monday with the cleaning of the Sheikh Russell Square.
‘Everyone has a sacred responsibility to keep their workplace clean and tidy,’ he said. He also instructed refraining from putting up unwanted posters and banners on campus.
Humayun urged everyone to be aware that dengue-carrier mosquitoes are not born in any way in the rainy season. From now on, on the last Monday of every month, regular cleaning activities will continue at BOU campus, all regional and sub-regional centres, he added.
Pro-vice-chancellor (administration) Nasim Banu, pro-vice-chancellor (education) Mahbuba Nasreen, treasurer Mostafa Azad Kamal and registrar Shafiqul Alam, deans, directors, department heads, branch heads, teachers, officers and staff of different schools were present at the time.
Earlier, a colorful procession of more than three hundred teachers, officials and employees started from the front of the vice-chancellor’s office and ended at Sheikh Russell Square at the corner of the library and park.
More than half a hundred cleaners holding placards wearing caps and earplugs with various slogans also took part in the rally. In addition, all the regional and sub-regional centres of BOU will observe Cleanliness Week simultaneously, said a press release.
