In-person classes in all primary level educational institutions across the country will resume on March 1, said Mahbub Rahman, public relations officer of primary and mass education ministry today.
The in-person classes in secondary schools and colleges will resume on February 22, as per the government decision taken yesterday.
On January 21, the government closed the schools, colleges and equivalent educational institutions across the country until February 6 in view of the worsening Covid situation.
On February 2, the government extended the closure by two more weeks.
At least 3.7 crore children’s education was disrupted by the closure of the schools in Bangladesh during the Covid pandemic, the UNICEF said on January 24, putting emphasis on reopening the schools.
The government kept all educational institutions shut for more than one and a half years from March 18, 2020 to September 11, 2021 due to the Covid-19 situation.
According to a UNICEF report, Bangladesh has suffered the second longest closure of schools in the world due to Covid-19.
With the latest statistics till Thursday morning, the country’s total Covid death toll has hit 28,907 and the tally of cases 19,26,570 since the country recorded the first Covid infection on March 8, 2020 and the first death from the disease on March 18, 2020.
