Woman beats up pregnant woman, damages 5-month-old foetus over ‘Facebook friend request’

Police arrested a woman yesterday (April 26, 2022) in connection with a case filed for beating a pregnant woman and damaging her five-month-old foetus, leading to its abortion, over a Facebook friend request at Shivalaya upazila in Manikganj.
The arrestee is Runa Khandaker, wife of Rashid Jewel of Notunpara area of the upazila, reports our Manikganj correspondent quoting Md Shaheen, officer-in-charge of Shivalaya Police Station.
The victim, Shikha Akhter (27), wife of Shuruzzaman Suman, filed a case with the police facility last morning for beating her up and damaging her five-month-old foetus on Monday (April 25, 2022).
After the case was filed, police conducted a drive and arrested Runa.
Later, a Manikganj court sent her to jail this afternoon, rejecting her bail, after police produced her before the magistrate.
According to the case document, Shikha sent a friend request to her neighbour Runa Khandaker from her personal Facebook account on Monday (April 25, 2022).
Over the Facebook friend request, Runa hurled abusive words at Shikha and beat her up after barging into her house yesterday, it stated.
Later, relatives rescued the victim and sent her to Shivalaya Upazila Health Complex from where she was shifted to Manikganj Zila Sadar Hospital where she had to abort her five-month-old foetus due to the beating.
The victim’s father-in-law Amir Sheikh said his daughter-in-law is still in critical condition.

Police arrest man fugitive for 22 years

A man, who remained fugitive for 22 years to avoid imprisonment, was sent to jail yesterday for killing his wife on January 10, 2000.
The convict is Anwar Hossain, 55, of Dinajpur’s Phulbari upazila, said police.
On Thursday, he was brought to Phulbari Police Station with the support of Dhaka police.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested him during a raid in the capital’s Bhatara area.
Ashraful Islam, officer-in-charge of Phulbari Police Station, said the murder took place on January 10, 2000, at a rented house in Uttar Sujapur village of the upazila.

CMCH intern doctor arrested in pornography case

Police arrested an intern doctor of Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) from the Intern Doctors’ Hostel at CMC early today in a case filed under the Pornography Control Act with Khilkhet Police Station in Dhaka.
A team of police from Khilkhet Police Station with the help of Panchlaish Police Station in Chattogram conducted a drive at the hostel and arrested Arnab Paul, 24, an internee doctor of the hospital, around 1:00am said Sadekur Rahman, inspector (investigation) of Panchlaish Police Station.
Arnab was having an affair with a university student, he said, adding, as the relationship came to an end, the woman filed a case against him under the Pornography Control Act, 2012 with Khilkhet Police Station in February.
The woman, in the case statement, alleged that Arnab used to blackmail her using the videos he recorded during their period of intimacy, said the police officer, adding, he was taken to Dhaka after being arrested.

DB arrests driver over killing employer

Detectives have arrested a car driver on charges of killing his employer car owner and looting money and gold ornaments at Badda in the capital.
Briefing reporters on Wednesday, Dhaka Metropolitan Police additional commissioner for the Detective Branch AKM Hafiz Akhter said that they arrested the driver, Hriday Bepari, at Badda on Tuesday.
Hriday allegedly killed his employer, Seven Circle Bangladesh Limited deputy manager Afroza Sultana, for looting money and gold ornaments Sunday evening, said the official.
The officer said that Hridoy, who was addicted to online gambling, had lost most of his salary in gambling.
As he could not afford to run his family, he planned and killed Afroza to loot her money and gold ornaments, said Hafiz.
Hridoy, who has a wife and three children, also borrowed money from Afroza recently for running the family, but yet he could not pay house rents for the last three months, said the DB officials.
He also attempted to kill Afroza earlier twice, but failed, Hafiz said.
Hridoy attacked Afroza with a glass from behind and killed her by sliting her throat Sunday evening, said police.
Afroza’s husband Ayan Fahad was in his office during the incident.
After the murder, Hridoy took away money and gold ornaments and fled.
Hridoy thought that there would be a huge amount of money and ornaments in the house, there were less than what he expected, said DB officials.
