]]>English-medium students from four schools will initially receive the service
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) will pilot a student bus service for four English-language schools in its jurisdiction to reduce congestion in the city, DNCC Mayor Md Atiqul Islam said. We are seeing parents using their private cars to take their children to school, increasing the number of vehicles on the streets.
The school bus service will help reduce traffic congestion and pollution, he said at a seminar to define primary strategies for introducing the school bus service at the DNCC office in the capital. Teachers from different schools and carers of students attended the event and expressed their opinions.
“If school buses are introduced, the use of private cars will decrease drastically. In addition, boys and girls getting together on a school bus are given the opportunity to make friends. Our social ties will be strengthened”, the mayor said. “We are in talks with stakeholders. Many teachers agreed. This is where parental goodwill is most important”, he added, noting that if the pilot is successful, all schools will be phased into service
For safety, the mayor said modern technology will be used on the school buses. There will be surveillance cameras, a tracking system and a hotline number on the buses. Bus drivers and staff are also trained for this.
‘In many families, both parents are employees. A safe school bus would be a great solution for them. You don’t have to worry about your kids getting to and from school. It will also reduce transportation costs for their children”.
Atiqul Islam also said that no private cars carrying students will be allowed within 100 meters of a school after student bus service to the school has been secured.
Regarding the determination of the bus route, the mayor said that the bus route will be determined taking into account the home address of each student.

]]>The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) will host temporary cattle markets at Uttara Sector-11, Baridhara Block-J and Eastern Housing Maath at Mirpur Section-6 in addition to the permanent cattle markets at Gabtali and six temporary ones, officials said.
DNCC chief estate officer Md Fasiullah told the news agency that the authorities until October 8 have finalised the leasing out of four temporary cattle markets at Agargaon at Tk 1.15 crore, Kakoli Railway Station at Tk 0.52 crore and Khilkhet-Banarupara Residential Area at Tk 0.42 crore.
The leasing out of five other markets under the DNCC at Polytechnic Institute Playground, Taltola Bus Stand, and in the newly selected areas will be completed soon, he added.
