Masud Pathik to make more films on poemsAfter winning critical acclaim for Nekabbarer Mohaproyan, a film based on a same-titled poem by Niramlendu Goon, director Masud Pathik is now working on two more films inspired by works of art.
The films are respectively Maya (The Lost Mother), which draws its inspiration from Kamal Chowdhury’s poem Juddha Shishu (War Child) and artist Shahabuddin Ahmed’s painting Woman, and The Poetree (Kobigachh), based on two poems by Nirmalendu Goon and Nirendranath Chakraborty.
Masud, himself a poet, has already received a grant from the government for his second film Maya which will feature the story of a war child and her mother.
‘Maya is about a war child’s search for her lost mother,’ said the director, who is now in the process of selecting actors and will begin shooting in next November.
Talks are under way to cast Indian actress Swastika Mukherjee in a lead role in the film with a planned cameo appearance by the artist Shahabuddin Ahmed, Masud said.
The second film, The Poetree (Kobigachh), is a dream project of the filmmaker. Inspired by Nirmalendu Goon and Nirendranath Chakraborty’s popular poems Manush and Amalkanti respectively, the film will feature the lives of the two poets.
‘However, the central focus is not on any particular poet, rather poets in general whose lives are as eventful and full of dreams and struggles as any. Poets are inspired by the events in their life to produce works of art, he said.
The director also said around 30 poets will be featured in the film, which will start shooting very soon.

Spending the night in front of the television and watching a film with the other half could be more damaging to your relationship than you could possibly think.
New research confirms what most of us already knew, that men and women don’t like watching the same films.
Women are far more interested in a happy ending and men are twice as likely to want a sex scene in the film, as proven by a study of 2,000 adults, commissioned by insurer Direct Line.
TV psychologist Professor Geoffrey Beattie, who anaylsed the results, says: “This research shows that the perfect film needs to engage the mind – particularly with a plot twist – as well as the emotions.
“Films are important to people because they provide a narrative and a meaning to experiences, either similar to our own or very different to our own, and we often draw upon these narrative structures when we explain aspects of our own lives.
“Films take us on an emotional journey and allow us to feel a range of different emotions both positive and negative in a safe environment and when we have finished watching a film we often feel a degree of psychological satisfaction.”
The study found that both sexes agreed (for once) that a cunning plot twist was an integral part of any movie.
More than half of men feel an action sequence is essential to their perfect film, compared to women who prefer a happy ending to explosions and violence.
Matt Owen, spokesperson for insurance firm Drect Line says: “Our research shows that people are very clear about what they like – and especially what they don’t like – in films, with overly-complicated, lengthy movies being the worst offenders.
“In terms of what makes a perfect film, the most recent Star Trek movie may be the closest modern movie to fit the bill and may well have bodly gone where no film has gone before.
Direct Line has teamed up with Raindance, the UK’s largest independent film organisation, to launch 40 Seconds Straign, a film competition to find new UK film-making talent.

Tarin’s 25-year acting career is well and thriving; lately she has also made inroads into production.
She has worked in numerous TV plays, and appeared in only two feature films, one of which is yet to be released. Directed by Sajal Khaled, her second movie, titled “Kajoler Dinratri” is an adaptation of celebrated novelist Muhammad Zafar Iqbal’s novel. Besides Tarin, the cast includes, Afzal Hossain, Shamim Shahed and Ferdousi Priyabhashini. “I’m working on this film for two reasons: First, it’s about the Liberation War; second, the film is being made for children,” said Tarin.
Tarin had acted in another children’s film, “Kanthal Buri”, sometime back. Currently, two of her serials are being aired on TV channels. Along with Bipasha Hayat, she has recently acted in a play directed by Animesh Aich. Tarin produced the play as well.
The accomplished actress, who is a former “Notun Kuri” champion, has recently finished working on the TV play, “Nelir Hotel”. Directed by Bipul Raihan, the play is set in Cox’s Bazar. Tarin described the production as “unconventional”.
When asked if she is contemplating direction or hosting TV shows, Tarin said: “Acting is everything to me, it’s my passion; I want to stick to it.”
She has acted with several renowned directors: from the late Abdullah Al Mamun to young and promising directors. “Some of the young directors are really talented and have already shot to fame,” she said.
Also known for her skills in dancing and singing, Tarin seldom does either nowadays. There is, however, good news for her fans; She is working on her debut album. Written by Zulfikar Russell, the songs are composed and directed by Ibrar Tipu, Bappa Majumdar, Indranil Sen, and Rupankar.
“I won’t reveal everything in advance about the album,” she said smilingly.
