The original trophy of the FIFA World Cup has arrived in Dhaka earlier this morning for a 36-hour tour accompanied by a seven-member FIFA delegation including former French World Cup winner Christian Karembeu.
The World Cup trophy was taken to Radisson Blu Water Garden Hotel in Dhaka in presence of tight security. Afterwards, the trophy is scheduled for a visit at the President’s official residence, Bangabhahan, in the afternoon before being taken to the Prime Minister’s residence, Gono Bhaban, in the evening.
“The trophy will be displayed for all at the Bangladesh Army Stadium in Banani on Thursday afternoon. Some invited guests and winners of Coca Cola draws will get an opportunity to take pictures with the trophy,” Abu Nayeem Shohag, general secretary of the BFF, informed the media yesterday.
“We believe the trophy tour will be the talk of town and strengthen our football.”
The journey of the World Cup trophy has started from May 12 with the aim of spreading the message of peace. Earlier, the trophy came to Bangladesh for two days in December 2013.

The FIFA World Cup trophy is scheduled to tour Bangladesh for 36-hour in early June, Bangladesh Football Federation general secretary Abu Nayeem Shohagh told media on Monday. ‘The trophy will arrive in Dhaka on June 8 and leave the following day for a 36-hour tour of Bangladesh,’ said Shohagh.
The trophy tour will be accompanied by a seven-member FIFA delegation, including French 1998 World Cup winner Christian Karembeu. ‘A FIFA legend, former French international Christian Karembeu will be among the seven-member delegation of FIFA,’ he added.
The global tour of the world’s most coveted trophy started on May 12 with a first-stop event in Dubai. The showpiece event is sponsored by Coca-Cola will be held in 51 countries, including all the 32 countries of the upcoming Qatar World Cup in November-December this year.
During the tour of Bangladesh, the trophy will be taken to the country’s president’s official residence Bangabhaban and the prime minister’s official residence Gono Bhaban on June 8.
A cultural programme will be held when the trophy will be displayed at the Army Stadium to the public. People will also have opportunities to take photos with the trophy as told BFF general secretary.
Earlier the trophy made its visit to Bangladesh in 2013 before FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil.
