A Dhaka court on Saturday placed two garment factory owners of Rana Plaza on 12-day remand for interrogation, six days each in two cases.
Police on Friday night arrested New Weave Bottoms owner Mahbubur Rahman Taposh and Bazlus Samad Adnan, owner of New Weave Style, in connection with a case, filed after Rana Plaza collapsed on Wednesday. Sub-Inspector Mohammad Kaiser Matobbor, also the Investigation Officer of the case, produced the two before the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court in Dhaka On Saturday, seeking a 14-day police remand in two separate cases, but the court granted a 12-day remand, six days each in two cases.
In another development, law enforcers arrested Executive Engineer of Savar Municipality Mohammad Imtemam Hossain and Assistant Engineer Mohammad Alam Mia from Savar Municipality area early Saturday.
Sub-Inspector Kaisar Matubbar produced the two before the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court, seeking a 14-day police remand in two separate cases, but after hearing Judge Mohammad Tajul Islam granted an eight-day remand, four days each in two cases.
The arrestees also prayed for bail. Hearing the arguments from both the sides, the court rejected their bail prayer and granted remand.
Police and RAJUK filed two cases with Savar Police Station on Wednesday night accusing Sohel Rana, the owner of Rana Plaza, and the owners of the five garment factories, located in the collapsed building for the loss of lives and property.
Rana has been on the run since the collapse of Rana Plaza on April 24, causing the death of more than 326 people and 400 others injured.
