The profit of mobile phone company Robi soared to Tk 113.10 crore in the first quarter of the current year from Tk 11.6 crore of the same period of the previous year.
‘We posted a moderate growth in revenue of Tk 1,080.60 crore in
the first three months of 2013 which is 5.5 per cent higher that the previous quarter,’ said Robi
chief financial officer Mahtabuddin Ahmed at a news briefing on Wednesday at its corporate office in the city.
He said the company increased subscribers by 1.7 per cent compared with previous quarter which incurred higher tax payment to the government for SIM cards.
Robi paid Tk 399.5 crore to the government exchequer in the first quarter of the current year.
Mahtab said Robi brought Tk 17,577 million in to the country as foreign direct investment from shareholders in 2012 while no dividend had been proposed for the same business year.
Robi has not paid any dividend to its shareholders since 2006, while invested Tk 2,677.4 crore in the same period.
Chief market officer Pradeep Shrivastava, chief human resources officer Matiul Islam Nowshad and executive vice-president Mahmudur Rahman were present at the press briefing, along with other top officials of the company.
