“Spider-Man: No Way Home” has been climbing up the ladder and has become the sixth-highest grossing movie in history with $1.69 billion at the global box office (not adjusted for inflation). It passed “Jurassic World” ($1.67 billion) and “The Lion King” ($1.66 billion) to secure that spot.Now in its sixth weekend of release, “No Way Home” returned to the top slot in North America, adding $14.1 million between Friday and Sunday, along with $27.7 million overseas. The superhero epic, starring Tom Holland as Marvel’s friendly neighbourhood web-slinger, opened in December and has generated $721
million at the domestic box office and $970.1 million internationally.
Outside of the United States, where “No Way Home” ranks as the fourth-biggest movie ever, it has done especially well in the U.K. — Holland’s birthplace — amassing $116 million to date. Other top-earning territories include Mexico with $73.4 million, South Korea with $60.6 million and France with $59.9 million.
It is notable that “No Way Home” has managed to shatter records and smash expectations without playing in China, which is the world’s biggest movie-going market.

Canada based Bangladeshi filmmaker Golam Mustofa’s movie ‘A Drop of Love’ created a wave recently by winning five awards at the American International Film Festival (AIFF): Best Narrative Feature, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Animator and Best Animation Feature.The movie, in English language, however, had its world premiere on January 17, 2012 at the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity in Segunbagicha. The movie features the life style of the Bangladeshi expatriates in Canada through a love story between a Canadian man, Joe, and a Bangladeshi girl, Afrin.
In an online interview with New Age, the expatiate director told the background of making the movie and its success stories.
‘In the Western world, especially in Canada, there is a huge demand for the depiction of Bengali culture in films. As I have a background in filmmaking, I tried the medium to portray the lifestyle and crises of Bengali expatriate communities in Canada’ said Mustofa.
Golam Mustofa has done a series of courses on filmmaking, editing, creative writing, visual communication media, visual effects, computer animation and more, in New York. Under his direction, a total of three full-length feature films titled ‘360 Degree’, ‘The Sundried Green Grass’ and ‘Her American Dream’ are currently in production.
Replying to the question if the director wants a commercial release of the movie in Bangladesh, Mustofa said, ‘Though the movie is in English, the subject deals with Bangladeshis and I definitely want it to be watched in the country. For that we are seeking distributors. We also want to launch the musical album of the film.’
The movie has ten original songs with astoundingly catchy tunes, versatile instrumentations, sweet vocals and heart-touching lyrics, covering Jazz, Pop, Rock and other genres. ‘A year and half was devoted by the talented vocalists and composers, trained at Berkley, Manhattan and London Music Schools, NYU, University of Michigan and UCLA, on the songs. It will be released as a fully loaded soundtrack CD in North America soon,’ said Mustofa.
He also informed that two songs are translated versions of the famous Rabindra Sangeet ‘Ami chini go chini tomake’ and Nazrul Geeti ‘Dur dwipbasini’.

Superhero movie The Avengers has topped the US and Canadian box office for the third week in a row, taking $55.1m (£34.8m), studio estimates suggest.The film easily saw off new release Battleship, which took $25.4m (£16.1m).
The Avengers also raked in another $56m (£35.4m) globally over the weekend – taking its total worldwide earnings to $1.2bn (£758m).
The Disney blockbuster sees a team of Marvel comic-book heroes team up to fight an extra-terrestrial threat.
Among the cast are Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson and Chris Hemsworth – who have appeared in previous Marvel movies as Iron Man, Black Widow and Thor respectively.
Paul Dergarabedian, analyst for box-office tracker Hollywood.com, said: “The Avengers is dominating the marketplace so profoundly that the newcomers are having a tough time breaking in now.”
Universal’s Battleship, which stars Liam Neeson, Taylor Kitsch and Rihanna in the adaptation of the board game, did not do as well as anticipated on its North American release.
Nikki Rocco, Universal’s head of distribution, admitted: “I would be glad to be number two if we opened to a better number. But given the presence of an absolute juggernaut in the marketplace, there’s nothing you can do.”
Sacha Baron’s latest film The Dictator, which sees the British comedian play third-world despot Admiral General Aladeen, went straight in at number three with $17.4m (£11m) over the weekend.
The Johnny Depp/Tim Burton vampire spoof Dark Shadows dropped from second place to fourth, while pregnancy comedy What to Expect When You’re Expecting, starring Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Lopez, debuted at number five.

Five shows of the movie “Amar Bondhu Rashed” were held from June 26-28 at the mini auditorium of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), Sylhet.A large number of evidently moved students and teachers came away from the screenings that were an initiative of Chokh Film Society, a cultural organisation of the University.
Based on a novel with the same titled, by noted writer Dr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, the movie is a production of Impress Telefilm Ltd, and has been directed by Morshedul Islam, who has brought out the best from the performers.
The movie provides a glimpse of the Liberation War, through the eyes of a teenager who fights for the country, motivated by another unique adolescent freedom fighter named Rashed.
Rashed, wiser beyond his years, fights with great bravery and confidence and never compromises on his commitment to the nation’s independence. This movie revisits the contribution of youngsters to the birth of Bangladesh.
Not many in the packed mini-auditorium could hold back their tears and were completely silent as they followed the unraveling of Rashed’s predicament.

Actor Salman Khan has asked the maker of ‘Kick’ to mellow down the love making scene for the Hindi version of the movie.The movie is a remake of a Telugu film ‘Kick’, which even has featured the South stars Ravi Teja and Ileeana D’Cruz in a passionate lovemaking scene. Nonetheless, Salman has normally shied away from onscreen intimacy and with Sonakshi it is altogether a different level of reluctance.
She is 22-year junior to him and he even treats her like a child, so he has asked the producer Sajid Nadiadwala to tone down the love making scene in way that he does not have to touch Sonakshi.
For the same, he has asked Sajid to rope in the Rajat Arora, who wrote romantic scene between Kangna Ranaut and Ajay Devgn in the movie ‘Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai’.
Salman was very impressed by Arora’s work and now he wants him to write understated romantic moments between him and Sonakshi for ‘Kick’.

At the end of 2007 promising TV actress and model Shimana started her film career by the movie ‘Daruchini Dweep,’ directed by Tawquir Ahmed. In that movie, she performed in the role of Naima.From that time she had intention to establish her career in the film arena. But due to lack of favourable script and story Shimana didn’t perform in any movie then.
Recently she got a proposal to cast in a movie, which will be directed by Nargis Akhter. Shimana will perform in the role of bride in Nargis’ movie ‘Putro Ekhon Paisawala.’ Her character will be Romana in that movie.
While sharing her feelings to perform in any movie after three years Shimana told this correspondent, “From the very beginning in my career in the media I wanted to establish myself in the big screen. For this reason, to work in plays I was waiting for a good story of a film. Nargis apa gave me that opportunity. I hope I will attract the viewers with my performance in her movie.”
According to the director of the movie Nargis Akhter, muharrat of the movie will be held on April 26. It will be produced by Multimedia Production of ATN Bangla. By this movie popular singer Robi Chowdhury is going to introduce his career as a music director. Bobita, Rina Khan, Misha Sawdagar, Shaina Amin, Mounata, Emon, among others, will also perform in the movie in different roles.
Story was written by Gazi Mazharul Anwar and it is scripted by Nargis Akhter herself. Now Shimana is working in ‘Gulshan Avenue,’ ‘Lifestyle,’ ‘Sabuj Nakshatra,’ ‘Amader Sangsar,’ ‘Anyo Ronger Dhaka,’ ‘Mouchake Dhil,’ ‘Aynaghor’ and other drama serials.

After releasing her debut movie she got many offers to act in various movies. Lastly she decided to perform in the movie of popular filmmaker Montazur Rahman Akbar. Title name of the movie is ‘Aghotan.’ Chandni will cast for the central role in the movie, said Chandni. Shooting of the movie began yesterday.
While sharing her feelings Chandni told this correspondent, “Only Akbar Bhai’s movie I have agreed to perform as I knew that he works with the newcomers in the film arena. I hope that this movie will help me to establish myself in the filmdom. And it will be turning point of my career.”
Chandni performed another movie titled ‘Ek Joban-er Jamindar Here Gelen Ebar,’ directed by Uttam-Akash, will set to be released soon where she performed in the central character. Amin Khan is her co-actor in that movie, according to Chandni.
