Nagad gets two MasterCard Excellence Awards 2022

The Postal Department’s Nagad mobile financial service won the “Mastercard Excellence Award 2022” for its digital innovation in Bangladesh’s financial industry.

According to a press release, Nagad won its second online award for its outstanding merchant business contributions.

Mastercard recently held the “Mastercard Excellence Award 2022” ceremony in Dhaka’s five-star hotel under the theme “Towards a Smart Transformation.”

Mastercard said this award goes to financial institutions who support smart Bangladesh vision.

In its fourth year, Mastercard recognized 23 organizations in 15 categories. Nagad was one of several multiple winners for its 2021-22 financial year performance.

In one category, Nagad has won the recognition of Excellence in Digital Innovation 2021-22 for Mastercard bill payment. Nagad has got recognition in the Excellence in Mastercard Business (Merchant) online 2021-22 category.

Commercial Minister Tipu Munshi was the chief guest at the award ceremony, while Bangladesh Bank Executive Director Md Khurshid Alam was the guest of honour. Mastercard South Asia Chief Operating Officer Bikash Verma and Bangladesh Country Manager Syed Mohammad Kamal were present.

Bikash Vetma said they are pleased to recognize organizations that develop new digital payment solutions and help Bangladesh flourish.

Nagad Founder and Managing Director Tanvir A. Mishuk said the Mastercard awards have added a new feather to Nagad’s efforts to bring the unbanked into the financial system.

Nagad has won Best Innovation Digital Financial Service Award for first KYC Innovation in Bangladesh, Inclusive Fintech Fifty Award, Best Digital Financial Service Provider Award, WITSA Global Excellence Award, Digital Bangladesh Award, E-Commerce Mover Award, Best Marketing Communication Award, and others.

Nagad offers up to Tk 1,000 cashback for mobile recharge

Nagad has launched a campaign, under which the mobile financial service provider offered up to Tk 1,000 cashback for mobile recharge.

This campaign will remain effective from October 3 until any further directive is issued.

The cashback will be available in the ‘Nagad Account’ within one working day of each mobile recharge, upon fulfilling the conditions applicable under this campaign.

A newly registered Nagad customer will be entitled to 20 per cent, but a highest Tk 300, cashback on any amount of mobile recharge in his/her own number in the initial two months.

The customer will be given up to Tk 400 cashback at a rate of 20 per cent on mobile recharge of any amount in his/her own number in the third month.

A customer will be able to recharge his/her number as many times s/he wishes but the highest limit in accordance with the offer is Tk 1,000.

Nagad offers up to 20pc cashback for Puja

Mobile financial service Nagad on Monday rolled out a campaign titled “Utshab er Khushi Nagad-a Beshi” on the eve of Durga Puja.

Under the campaign, they offered up to 20 per cent cashback and discount for its customers in lifestyle, e-commerce, and restaurant categories at over 50 brand outlets across the country, a press release said.

Customers will receive the cashback offer if they make the payment at selected merchant outlets using the Nagad Merchant QR or Nagad Accounts Merchant Pay options.

The deal will run for varying lengths of time depending on the merchant’s own offer policy.

Pay toll for Mayor Mohammad Hanif Flyover through Nagad

The postal department’s Mobile Financial Services Nagad and business organisation Orion Infrastructure Limited have inked an agreement to reduce traffic congestion at the toll plaza of the country’s longest Mayor Mohammad Hanif Flyover, said a press release.
From now on, customers will be able to cross the flyover by purchasing toll through ‘Nagad,’ eliminating the need for on-the-spot toll payments.
The agreement was recently signed at a programme held at the Sayedabad Janpath Mor in Dhaka, at the premises of Mayor Mohammad Hanif Flyover Central Plaza.
Managing director of Orion Infrastructure Limited Salman Obaidul Karim and chief executive officer of Nagad Rahel Ahmed signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations.
Also present on the occasion were Md Shahjahan Ali Patoary, senior vice-president of Orion Infrastructure, Md Erfanul Azim, assistant vice-president, Toll Management System of Orion Infrastructure, Md Saidur Rahman Dipu, head of Business Sales of Nagad, Sohael S Tasneem, head of Utility and Educational Payment of
Nagad along with the other top officials from Nagad and Orion infrastructure Limited.
Under the agreement, customers will now be able to travel freely across the Mayor Hanif Flyover’s 8 entrances by pre-purchasing toll through Nagad.
To avail this facility customer must first visit the flyover website (https://mmhf.com.bd/) and pay Tk 100 (per vehicle) in order to complete the initial registration.
This registration cost is also payable through Nagad. After completing the initial registration process, customers have to acquire RFID stickers or tags from the Central Plaza at Sayedabad Janpath Mor and affix them to their vehicles.
To pay the toll after registering, customers have to select ‘Pay with Nagad’ from the ‘Add Trip’ option from the MMHF website. Toll payment can then be conveniently completed by entering the trip number, Nagad account number, verification code and PIN.
The registered commuters will be able to cross directly through the flyover’s 8 exits by automatic scanning of the RFID sticker attached to the vehicles. However, the registered commuters must enter/exit the flyover through the lane labeled ‘T,’ where the boom bar will immediately open upon entry. As a consequence,
commuters no longer have to wait at the flyover’s exit to pay the toll.
Commenting on the agreement, Rahel Ahmed, chief executive officer of Nagad Ltd said, ‘To make Bangladesh a completely digital country, I believe it is vital to incorporate transportation and communication management into digital services. With that in mind, we are thrilled to be a part of the Hanif Flyover’s online toll

Nagad offers instant cashback on tuition fees of selective educational institutions

Mobile Financial Service ‘Nagad’ has come up with a cashback offer to reduce hassles to pay students tuition fees at their respective institutions. From now on, students who pay fees at school, college, and university’s will receive 5 percent instant cashback or up to BDT 50 per month.
The campaign started on 1 February 2022 and it will last till 30 of April 2022. During the campaign, through Nagad wallet, a student can avail this 5 percent or up to BDT 50 in the first transaction of fees payment in a month. As a result, from February to April, they will be able to receive up to BDT 150 cashback in three
months in a row.

To pay tuition fees, students can choose Nagad app, USSD (*167#) or merchant QR code of their institutions. Besides, students also can pay fees through browsing institutions websites by choosing Nagad. However, to avail this offer, students Nagad account has to be open and active.
Commenting on the fees collection of educational institutions, Nagad’s Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) Sheikh Aminur Rahman said, “We always try to provide easy and affordable services for people through Nagad. For people of all classes and ages, Nagad constantly coming up with new services. This time, collecting the
fees of the educational institutions and giving instant cashback to the students is an example of that.”

Nagad Ltd barred from opening trust-cum settlement account without approval

The Bangladesh Bank has asked banks not to open any trust-cum settlement account (TCSAs) under the name of Nagad Ltd. The central bank issued a letter to banks on September 2 asking them not to open such accounts in the name of Nagad Ltd without its prior approval and the Bangladesh Post Office (BPO). Nagad is the brand name of the BPO’s mobile financial service (MFS). Many MFS clients usually do not spend all of their money immediately after they funds are deposited in the accounts. The unused funds are collectively significant, which are deposited at TCSAs. Third Wave Technologies Ltd, which is the master agent and technological and logistic support provider to the BPO to operate the MFS, earlier opened TCSAs under its own name. But Third Wave has recently renamed as Nagad Ltd. A BB official said that Third Wave had recently wanted to change the name of the holder of TCSA in the name of Nagad Ltd and requested banks eventually. “Some banks wanted our directive whether they should change the name of holder of TCSAs. We asked them to refrain from doing so as Post office is yet to inform us. Post office should inform us,” he said. In March 2019, Nagad started as MFS of the BPO, and it has since been operated by Third Wave Technologies Ltd, which renamed itself as Nagad Ltd in February this year, allegedly without informing the BPO. Contacted, Muhammad Zahidul Islam, head of Public Relation of Nagad, said, changing the name of the company and opening TCSAs is an ongoing process. Such processes will be completed by maintaining regulatory requirements, he added.

Nagad offers up to 30pc bonus in SWAP deals

Bangladesh Post Office mobile financial arm Nagad and re-commerce firm SWAP launched a campaign titled ‘Choice is Yours’ where Nagad users can avail 10 to 30 per cent bonus in any deal. Under the offer in SWAP, ‘Nagad Deal E Beshi Labh’, Nagad users can buy and sell used products like cell phone, laptop, motorbike, furniture, car and other items with the bonus offer. SWAP’s pick-up staff will collect the old product from the customer’s house in compliance with hygiene rules, said a press release on Thursday. The offer will continue till August 31, 2021. Customers will get a maximum bonus of 30 per cent, or up to Tk 30,000, if they transfer the bonus 30 working days after the sale of a product. If they take it after 15 working days, they will get a 20 percent bonus, or up to Tk 20,000. And if they take it immediately, they will get a 10 percent bonus, or up to Tk 10,000. SWAP chief executive officer Parvez Hossain believes that old and used goods are not trash but it could be usable to someone in need. ‘That is the motto of SWAP. Maybe a product someone used and now it has no value to his or her, but it always can be useful to someone else. Such exchange of goods also helps to reduce E-waste,’ he said. Sheikh Aminur Rahman, chief marketing officer of Nagad, said, ‘Nagad thinks that it is important to partner with any local enterprise because Nagad itself is a local company. Nagad will try to play a role as a medium so that both buyers and sellers benefit from the offer of SWAP because it is more profitable on Nagad.’
