Double delight for Amol, Sarda

Amol Roy and Sarda Alam lifted the men’s and women’s singles titles of the Sony National Tennis Tournament beating their respective rivals at the National Tennis Complex in Ramna yesterday.
Amol defeated Alamgir Hossain 6-1 and 6-2 in the men’s singles final while Sarda crushed Sathi Sarkar 6-2 and 6-0 to clinch the women’s singles title. However, Sathi Sarkar found success in the men’s doubles event as she paired with Sarda beat Ishita Afroz and Ayesha Sultana 6-2 and 6-3.
It was also double delight for Amol, who pairing with Ranjan Ram beat the Anwar Hossain-Dipu Lal pair 4-6, 6-2 and 6-2 in the men’s doubles final.
In the U-16 boy’s singles final, Biplob Ram defeated Rustam Ali 6-4 and 7-5 while Ishita beat Ayesha Sultana 6-2 and 6-4 to lift the girl’s singles title.

Sony National Tennis kicks off

The Sony National Tennis Tournament, organized by the Bangladesh Tennis Federation and sponsored by Rangs Electronics, started at the National Tennis Complex on Friday.
Army Chief General Md Abdul Mubeen, President of Bangladesh Olympic Association inaugurated the tournament as the chief guest. Aktar Hussain, chairman and managing director of Rangs Group of Companies, Bangladesh Tennis Federation President Md. Shahriar Alam, MP, General Secretary Ishtiaq Ahmed and Joint Secretary of BTF and Director of the Tournament Sk. Moinuddin Walliullah (Jhelun) were also present in the opening ceremony.
A total of 349 tennis players from 32 different clubs are participating in the tournament. The eight-day meet has total prize money of one hundred and eighty thousand taka.
