Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will confirm the appointment of a new head coach for the national cricket team within the next seven days.
“We are at an advanced stage in the process of appointment of the new coach. I’m confident that we will be able to confirm the deal within our target timeline which is by June 15,” informed BCB CEO Manzur Ahmed, who joined the office yesterday after a vacation.
According to sources, it is all but confirmed that Australian Stuart Law is going to take the helm of the Tigers but Manzur said that they have been working on a shortlist.
“Right at this moment, it is not possible to disclose any names but what I can say is that we have a shortlist and we are moving forward with 4-5 applicants.
“It would have been better for us if we could finalise the deal earlier but still we are very close to appointing a coach within our deadline,” he added.
The Tigers’ next international assignment is in July-August when they will visit Zimbabwe for a single Test and five one-day internationals.
Manzur has been given the responsibility to deal with the appointment of the head coach as well as the specialist coaches and support staffs but the disclosure of few names by the BCB high-ups raised many eyebrows but Manzur was not ready to comment on the issue.
Manzur however was happy with the response he got from the coaches. “It’s really encouraging that many showed their interest to be involved with Bangladesh cricket. I can assure you that we are going to get a coach according to our expectations,” said Manzur.
The former cricketer also informed that they will be able to confirm the appointment of the support staff within a very short time once the deal with the head coach is done.
“We have a huge response for the specialist’s job, including that of the physiotherapist. But we want to take opinion of our new head coach before deciding on the support staff.
“It will not take much time as we are preparing everything,” said a confident Manzur.
