]]>Tk 10.97 crore was collected from 12:00am on Thursday to 11:59pm on Saturday, according to Bangladesh Bridges Authority.
A total of 74,222 vehicles crossed the Padma Bridge during this period.
Of them, a total of 22,703 vehicles crossed the bridge on Thursday, 31,723 vehicles on Friday and the remaining 19,796 vehicles crossed the bridge on Saturday, officials at the authority said.
Earlier, prime minister Sheikh Hasina formally inaugurated the bridge on June 25 and it was opened to traffic the next morning.

]]>Padma Bridge had its greatest toll collection ever on Friday, collecting Tk 41.9 million from 31,723 vehicles.
The disclosure was made on Saturday by the bridges authority, who stated that the toll was collected on Friday from 12:00 am to 11:59 pm.
On Friday, 12,056 vehicles paid Tk 17.01 million at the toll plaza at the Jazira end while 19,667 vehicles crossed the bridge and paid Tk 24.7 million at the Mawa end.
On July 1st, the bridge received a Tk 31.6 million toll from about 26,398 vehicles.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the Padma Bridge on 25 June and it was opened to the public on the next day.
This year’s Eid vacationers saw less misery thanks to the Padma bridge. Previously, it would have taken 2:30 hours to cross the Padma River by ferry, but now it just takes 5–6 minutes.

The government has fixed the toll of the under-construction Padma bridge, which is at least 1.5 times higher than the average toll paid on ferries plying the Padma.The bridge division under Road Transport and Bridges Ministry on Tuesday issued a notification fixing different toll rates for different transports.
As per the gazette, the toll rates are Tk 100 for a motorcycle, Tk 750 for a car and a jeep, Tk 1,200 for a pick-up van, Tk 1,300 for a microbus, Tk 1,400 for a minibus (31 seats or less than that), Tk 2,000 for a medium bus (32 seats or more than that), Tk 2,400 for a big bus (3 axles), Tk 1,600 for a small truck (up to 5 tonnes), Tk 2,100 for a medium truck (from 5 tonnes to 8 tonnes), and Tk 2,800 for a medium truck (from 8 tonnes to 11 tonnes) and Tk 5,500 for trucks up to 3 axles.
In cases of trailers, as per the gazette, the toll rate for using the bridge is Tk 6,000 for trailers up to 4 axles while the toll rate for trucks over 4 axles is Tk 6,000 plus Tk 1,500 for every other axle.
The toll will come into effect after the bridge is opened for traffic. The bridge is likely to open for traffic in late June.

]]>The Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader yesterday approved Bangladesh Bridge Authority’s proposal in this regard.
The summary of the proposal was sent to the Prime Minister’s Office for her approval yesterday, Quazi Muhammad Ferdous, chief engineer of BBA, told The Daily Star yesterday.
If the PM gives go-ahead, a private car will have to pay Tk 750 as toll, while the ferry toll is Tk 500.
A bike on the bridge would have to pay Tk 100, while on ferry it would pay Tk 70. A minibus on the bridge would pay Tk 1,400, while on the ferry Tk 950.The construction work of the Padma Bridge, which is being built to establish direct connection between the capital and the southern region, is now at its final stage.
Once operational, the 6.15km bridge will connect the capital with 21 southwestern districts by road and rail, providing relief to tens of thousands, who often struggle at the only two ferry terminals.
Both these terminals struggle with the amount of ferry passengers ahead of major festivals like Eid.
The bridge – a dual carriageway with a single rail line on a separate level — is expected to boost the country’s gross domestic product by 1.2 percent.
After several revisions, the deadline of the project was set at June 2023, including a one-year defect liability period, for which the cost rose to Tk 30,193 crore from the original TK 10,161 crore.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina earlier this month told parliament that that the bridge would be open to public by the year-end.
