Ekushey Padak-winning poet and former lawmaker Quazi Rosy dies in a hospital in Bangladesh capital Dhaka on early Sunday. She was 73.She breathed her last at about 2:30am, said her daughter Sumi Sikandar.
Prime minister Sheikh Hasina expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of the noted poet.
Quazi Rosy was admitted to Square Hospitals on January 30. She was shifted to the ICU and put on life support on January 31.
Sumi had earlier said that her mother was taken to Square Hospitals on January 30 as she was suffering from kidney complications and was put on life support on January 31.
After she was admitted to the hospital, she gave her swab samples for the Covid test and the test result came back positive, said Sumi.
Quazi Rosy started her literary career writing poems in the ‘60s and carved her niche with her works, namely, Pathghat Manusher Naam, Nashta Joyar, Amar Piraner Kono Map Nei, Larai and others. Besides, her work on martyred poet Meherun Nesa titled Shahid Kabi Meherun Nesa received a huge response from readers.
She has also to her credit a work on the poet Rabindranath Tagore tiled Rabindranath: Rasikatar Kabita.
Quazi Rosy received Bangla Academy Literary Award for her contribution to poetry in 2018. Besides, she received Ekushey Padak in 2021.
Prime minister Sheikh Hasina remembered her brave role in poem and in the trial of the war criminals.
The prime minister prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
