Raihan Rafi’s “Poran” made history by completing its 100-day run in the theaters. In 11 theaters around the country including multiplexes, the movie is still playing to packed houses.

It has established an admirable precedent for Bangladeshi film industry by continuing century run at the majority of theaters.

Finding out the daily or weekly income in Bangladesh is difficult because there are no box office data available. The actual profits are not disclosed by movie distributors or producers.

However, “Poran” is an anomaly because its production and distribution business provided a rough estimate of the amount of money the movie made from screenings around the nation.

A preliminary estimate of their 100-day wages has reportedly been gathered, according to reports.

A film distribution firm named Avi Kathachitra has not yet received the complete record of the hundred days.

However, according to nationwide ticket sales, the movie has made a staggering BDT 12 crores.

The ticket sales for “Poran” allowed Star Cineplex to make a sizable profit. Up until October 10, tickets at Star Cineplex Dhaka’s five locations had been sold for approximately BDT 7 crores and 22 lakhs.

Up to September 30, Jamuna Blockbuster Cinemas also sold tickets totaling about Tk 2 crore. From ticket sales, Lion Cinemas has made about BDT 50 lakhs.

Even with a two-week break, “Poran” has been showing at Mymensingh’s Purobi Cinema Hall for 86 days. Up till last October 14, this hall sold BDT 14 lakh worth of tickets.

In addition to this, almost BDT 3 crores arrived from different single venues in Dhaka and elsewhere.

After dividing the earnings with the owner of the hall, the producer received about 3 crores from the total amount of ticket sales, excluding VAT and tax.

It was known at the time of the film’s release through producer sources that the budget for “Poran,” including publicity expenses, was BDT 87 lakhs taka.

The film’s distributor, Zahid Hossain, told Prothom Alo that it will take some time to properly account for the total of 100 days because they anticipate more ticket sales in the future.

The distributor claims that ten shows continue to run every day in five branches of Cineplex, three in Blockbuster Cinemas, two each in Lion Cinemas, and Chittagong Silver Screen.

At the Cineplex, some “Poran” performances continue to draw large audiences every day. A few small halls outside of Dhaka continue to show the movie.

In this circumstance, it is difficult to predict how many more days the movie will be shown in cinemas around the country.

The ticket sales for “Poran” in the theaters could surpass BDT 15 crores, according to the distributors.
