A Dhaka court today framed charges against film actress Pori Moni and her two associates in a case filed under Narcotics Control Act. The others are Ashraful Islam Dipu and Kabir Hossain.
All three, now on bail, claimed themselves innocent and demanded justice after Judge Mohammad Nazrul Islam of the Special Judge Court-10 of Dhaka read out the charges to them.
The judge, however, dismissed the petitions submitted for discharging Pori Moni and the two others from the charges of the case.
Earlier in the day, Pori Moni got bail after she surrendered before the court and sought bail as she was already on bail granted by the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court.
During today’s hearing, the lawyer for Pori Moni and others accused told the court that Rab neither seized any narcotics nor other substances from thier possession and they were implicated in the case.
Opposing the allegation, the prosecution said that the charges brought against them were primarily proved and charges would be framed against them.
The judge fixed February 1 for starting trial of the case.
On November 15 last year, Judge KM Emrul Kayesh of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court accepted the charges against the three.
Kazi Golam Mostafa, inspector of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Investigation Officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court of Dhaka on October 4.
Members of Rapid Action Battalion detained Pori Moni and Dipu on August 4 last year. They seized alcohol and narcotics from Pori Moni’s residence.
The following day, the two were shown arrested in the case filed with Banani Police Station.
Later, Kabir was shown arrested in the same case.
On September 1, Pori Moni was released from jail on ad-interim bail, four weeks after her arrest.
