‘Rickshaw Girl’, directed by Amitabh Reza, is being screened in various states of the United States for four weeks in a row after its successful premiere in Manhattan and New York, said a press release.‘Rickshaw Girl’ has already been screened in 52 cities across 18 states of the United States. Viewers in Arizona and California are enjoying the film screening this week.
‘Rickshaw Girl’ had its dazzling premiere at Manhattan’s famous movie theatre ‘Village of East by Angelika’ on May 5.
Minister of Liberation War Affairs AKM Mozammel Haque, minister of state for Information and Communication Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak, associated cast and crew members, along with others, enjoyed the New York screening.
The plot of the film, based on the middle-grade novel by Indian-American writer Mitali Perkins, revolves around a teenager named ‘Naima’. Actress Novera Rahman played the role of ‘Naima’.
The film also stars Champa, Momena Chowdhury, Naresh Bhuiyan, Allen Shubro, and others. The screenplay was co- written by Naseef Faruque Amin and Sharbari Zohra Ahmed.
‘Rickshaw Giri’, yet to be released in Bangladeshi theatres, is Amitabh Reza’s second film. His first film ‘Ayanabaji’ gained huge popularity in Bangladesh.
The film has received critical acclaim and won awards in various film festivals, including the Prescott Film Festival in the United States and the SCHLiNGEL International Film Festival in Germany.
The film is a joint production of Bangladesh and the United States; the producers are Ziauddin Adil, Faridur Reza Sagor, and Eric J. Adams.
Throughout the month of May, ‘Rickshaw Girl’ was shown in the following states: New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Texas, Massachusetts, Virginia, Maryland, Florida, Ohio, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arizona, Oregon, North Carolina, Illinois, Michigan, Washington, and California.
As per the cinema associates, ‘Rickshaw Girl’ might be screened in other major cities and countries of the world as well, the release said.

Acclaimed director Amitabh Reza Chowdhury’s ‘Rickshaw Girl’ has won the SLM Top Award at the 26th SCHLINGEL Int’l Film Festival in Germany.This award is the highest honour awarded by the famous festival, which has been honouring outstanding films directed at children and teenagers since 1996.
The festival featured 77 feature films and 116 short films this year, with Rickshaw Girl being nominated in the International Segment.
Telling the story of a battle-hardened female rickshaw puller Naima, “Rickshaw Girl” features Novera Rahman as the lead. Momena Chowdhury, Novera’s real life mother, portray’s Naima’s mother in the film, which also features the likes of Allen Shuvro, Champa and Naresh Bhuiyan.
The film had previously been selected and earned praise in Mill Valley Film Festival in the USA, and Durbal International Film Festival.
Amitabh Reza Chowdhury, who recently returned from the USA after a short 7-day trip promoting the film, said that he was elated that it was getting accolades all over the world.

Acclaimed filmmaker Amitabh Reza Chowdhury-directed film Rickshaw Girl is going to participate in the Mill Valley Film Festival, which is scheduled to be held from October 7 to 17, 2021 in Mill Valley, California, United States.Amitabh Reza Chowdhury confirmed the matter in a Facebook post.
‘Rickshaw Girl is going to start its North America tour this year by participating in the Mill Valley Film Festival. It will be the second international tour of the film,’ wrote Amitabh Reza Chowdhury.
Earlier, the film participated in the Durban International Film Festival in Durban, South Africa.
Rickshaw Girl revolves around Naima, a painter of traditional motifs, and her struggles. The film is based on Mitali Perkins’s 2007 best-selling novel Rickshaw Girl. The novel was chosen by the New York Public Library as one of the 100 best children’s books of the past 100 years.
Bangladesh-born American writer Sharbari Z Ahmed, who has earned plaudit working as a screenwriter for ABC’s TV show Quantico, has written the screenplay for the film.
The film stars Novera Rahman, Champa, Momena Chowdhury, Naresh Bhuiyan, Nasiruddin Khan, Allen Shuvro, Rupkatha, Ashok Bepari and others.
