Mohammad Salauddin, the ex-fielding coach of Bangladesh National Cricket Team who played a vital role last season in keeping the Bangladesh fielding & spin bowling department in good shape had to leave the national job as Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) did not extend his contract. Presently he is coaching the National University of Malaysia (UKM) cricket team.
Apart from talking about his new team, the ex-Tigers’ mentor shared his views about the latest happenings in the Bangladesh National Cricket team.
daily sun: How much are you enjoying your job in Malaysia?
Salauddin: I feel good here and fully satisfied with my job. However sometimes I feel lonely as my family is not here with me.
daily sun: What do you think is special about your new team?
Salauddin: The boys here got talent and few of them are playing for Malaysian National Cricket side, which is a great. They also played against Bangladesh team in the Asian Games 2010 and performed quite well. Though lack of facilities is making it hard for them to compete with the big teams and yes, they are a bit lazy (laughs).
daily sun: After Shakib, Tamim has made it into the county. How do you take it?
Salauddin: Shakib performed very well in the bowling department and he has already shown his talent as he has been playing for a season now. About Tamim, he has a lot of potential to play in every format of the County and he has already proved it. I think he should have gotten chance in last year’s edition. I know Tamim very well, he has his own dream about his career, about his team and now he is well on his way.
daily sun: How much do you miss your Bangladesh job?
Salauddin: I miss Bangladesh a lot and I miss my boys too.
daily sun: What is your opinion about the new Stuart Law, the new Bangladesh coach?
Salauddin: I do not have much idea about him. But Law was a captain before so I think he can help for our boys a lot. If he can catch up to the necessities then I think the outcome will be good for the national side.
daily sun: Do you feel that Bangladesh team should have had more time with their new coach ahead of the Zimbabwe tour?
Salauddin: From my past experience with the boys, I can say that when a new coach arrives it takes time to knot up with him. So, it would have been better if they could have spent more time with the new coach before they went on to tour Zimbabwe.
daily sun: How much important do you feel is it for Bangladesh to win the only Test match against Zimbabwe? What do you feel might be the result?
Salauddin: A five-day match is always important for Bangladesh Team but the boys are going to play a Test match almost after 13-14 months. So it’s hard to predict anything about the result. It’s sad that we are going to miss Mashrafee and Shahadat. But Tamim and Shakib have been playing matches for the last few weeks. If they play their natural game with others backing them up, I think the result can be a positive one.
daily sun: Tomorrow (today) Shakib and Tamim will clash in County. What is your opinion on this?
Salauddin: (laughs) Yes, it will be more exciting to watch them playing against each other. I am waiting, and expecting a good fight between the two friends in the field.
