Tackling Rabies
15 lakh dogs to be vaccinated
The government has decided to vaccinate around 15 lakh dogs in the country instead of killing them for tackling rabies. In primary stage, the programme will be launched at city corporations and municipalities in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Sylhet and Dhaka divisions. The vaccination in six
districts of Rangur division has already been completed.
The national action plan was made public at a seminar jointly organised by Directorate General of Health Services, Local Government Division and World Society for
Protection of Animal marking World Rabies Day 2012 at MIS centre in Mohakhali of the capital yesterday.
This year the tagline of the day, observed on September 28, is “Together we work to eliminate rabies”.
The vaccination will be finished in Rajshahi by October first, in Sylhet within the first half of the month and in Dhaka by November.
