Five peaking power plants
\n<\/em>PDB signs Tk 3,500cr contracts with 3 cos<\/strong>
\nThe Power Development Board on Monday signed contracts worth around Tk 3,500 crore with three companies for the installation of five peaking power plants with a combined generation capacity of 420MW.
\nThe PDB signed two contracts with a local consortium of Energypac Power Generation Ltd and\u00a0Energypac Engineering Ltd for the installation of a 50MW furnace oil-based plant at Faridpur and a 100MW plant at Gopalganj.
\nThe turnkey contract for the Faridpur plant is worth about Tk 383.54 crore and for the Gopalganj plant Tk 693.08 crore.
\nThe PDB signed two agreements with a Chinese company, the Guangdong Power Engineering Corporation, for the installation of two 100MW dual-fuel (gas or furnace oil) plants in Hathazari at a cost of Tk 908.74 crore and in Dohazari for Tk 971.69 crore.
\nThe PDB also signed an agreement with South Korea\u2019s Hyundai Heavy Industries for installation of a 70MW plant at Bera in Pabna at a cost of Tk 484.68 crore.
\nThe companies, as per the agreement, will complete installation of the plants by 15 months.
\nPrime minister\u2019s adviser Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, state minister for power and energy Md Enamul Haque, state minister for home affairs Shamsul Haque Tuku, power secretary Md Abul Kalam Azad, British High Commissioner Stephen Evans, South Korean Ambassador Cho Tai-young and PDB\u2019s chairman ASM Alamgir Kabir were present while the contracts were being signed at Bidyut Bhaban.
\nEnamul hoped that the companies would be able to complete installation of the plants in the specified time.
\nTawfiq claimed that it was the first time that any government in Bangladesh had signed contracts worth around $1 billion for installation of power plants in 14 months.
\nThe PDB is expected to sign contracts for four other peaking power plants with Energypac and a joint venture of three Chinese companies.<\/p>\n
