The event, ‘Banglalink Music Fest 2011’, was an initiative to popularise and promote local culture and heritage.

Ayub Bachchu of LRB, Shafin Ahmed and Hamin Ahmed of Miles, along with Warfaze, Aurthohin and a local band of Rajshahi entertained hundreds of people at the five-and-a-half hour concert.

Mobile phone operator Banglalink organised the concert to support the dynamic and diverse musical traditions of Bangladesh.

The viewers began queuing up from noon onwards at the stadium, picking up tickets. Their patience was finally rewarded when Rajshahi’s local band Salvation took the stage at 3pm.

Sumon of Aurthohin took the stage with “Gaibo Na Aar Kono Gaan Tomake Chhara” and performed some of their other favourite numbers.

Miles played several of their classics, while Warfaze’s Mizan rendered “Tomakey Mon-e Porey” and “Boshey Achhi Eka”.

Finally, Ayub Bachchu and LRB appeared on stage and performed the band’s popular songs like “Meye” and others. The concert ended at 9:30pm.

The Rajshahi event was part of a nationwide series of concerts, which Banglalink initiated in Khulna last December. The concert was held in Chittagong in January this year before it came to Rajshahi.

Banglalink officials said they would organise more such concerts across the country as part of their plan to make a difference through music.
