A leading local company yesterday fetched over Taka 117.6 million on the spot export orders of traditional clothing – Taant and Jamdani and\u2014at a month-long International Jamdani Taant Bastra Mela (fair) that began here on August 8.
\nBangladesh Weavers Product and Manufacturing Business Association (BWPMBA) organised the fair on the premises of Siddeshwari Girls\u2019 School on Baily Road.
\nSanjit Pramanik, a West-Bengal based company, will import five lakh pieces of Taant sarees and 5,000 pieces of Jamdani sarees from Lucky Jamdani Weaving Factory, which is taking part in the fair.
\nAn agreement to this effect was signed between Lucky Jamdani Weaving Factory and Sanjit Pramanik on the fair premises.
\nProprietor of Lucky Jamdani Weaving Factory M Salahuddin and proprietor of Sanjit Pramanik signed the agreement on behalf of their respective sides.
\nFair organising committee member Amanul Haque, BWPMBA executive committee members M Salauddin and Osman Gani were present on the occasion.
\nTalking to BSS, Salahuddin, also member secretary of fair organising committee, said the Taka 11,76,28,200 export orders indicates that the industry is growing and has a potential to grow substantially if given the government policy support.
\nHe urged the government to provide them with working capital for weavers, set up a permanent display centre and a \u2018Taanti Palli\u2019 in Dhaka and arrange training for modern fashion and design.
\nThe fair is aimed to regain the lost glory of the traditional products at home and abroad and help the exporters know customers\u2019 choice and attitude so that the quality of the Jamdani clothing could be improved, organizers said.
\nA good number of traditional clothing including jamdani saree, lungee, handloom products, 3-piece and 2-piece are being displayed in 110 stalls.
\nThe fair will remain open for all from 10am to 8pm every day and continue till the day before Eid.
\nBangladesh exports the traditional clothes to many countries including India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, UAE and European countries.<\/p>\n
