Chairman of Jatiya Party (JP) HM Ershad on Saturday said his party does not want to remain with the Awami League-led 14-party alliance say it will alone take part in the next general election alone. \u201cWe don\u2019t want to remain with the grand alliance. Party workers also prefer not to stay with them. We will take part in the polls alone. We will leave the alliance at an appropriate time,\u201d he said while addressing a rally of grassroots level leaders and activists of greater Dhaka district at Banani Ground in the city.<\/span>
\nThe former president alleged that the government has done injustice to JP during the past four and a half years rules.
\n\u201cNow, they feel the importance of the Jatiya Party. They didn\u2019t care about the party during the period. They will not get any response if they call us at this moment,\u201d he added.
\nRegarding the much-talked-about meeting with opposition leader Khaleda Zia, the JP chief said he went to Singapore for treatment but it he was accused of hatching conspiracy.
\n\u201cWhat was wrong, if I had met the opposition leader,\u201d he asked saying that both the opposition leader and he are in politics Besides, Khaleda is not his enemy.
\nErshad accused the two top leaders of both the treasury and opposition benches of creating indicant culture in politics.
\nReferring to newspaper reports that the popularity of the government has fallen to bottom, he said activities of Chhatra League, misrules of government, undermining Dr Yunus, neglecting JP, Padma, Hallmark and share market scams, creating Shahbagh Square and attacks on Hefazat rally at Shapla Square have all contributed.
\nPresided over by SM Faisal, president of Dhaka city (North), the rally was also addressed, among others, by Raushan Ershad, ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader and Kazi Firoj Rashid.
\nMeanwhile, our Gazipur Correspondent reports said the local Jatiya Party has extended their support to 18-party Mayor candidate Prof MA Mannan in the Gazipur City Corporation election.
\nNurul Islam, general secretary of Gazipur district unit of JP on Saturday announced the decision under the pressure of local leaders and activists.
\nOn the other hand, the local JP declared Advocate Manwar Hossain, president of poura JP, persona non-grata as he supported the grand alliance candidate Ajmat Ullah Khan.<\/p>\n
