\nA bench of Justice Mirza Hussain Haider and Justice Muhammad Khurshid Alam Sarkar set today to hear attorney general Mahbubey Alam following his prayer seeking one more day\u2019s time so that he could take the preparation for the hearing.
\nThe same court on Monday deferred the hearing as deputy attorney general Al Amin Sarkar prayed for time for a day saying the attorney general would make his argument on Tuesday.
\nOn Sunday, the bench, after hearing the writ petitions filed by lawyers Md Alamgir Hossain and Md Golam Nabi, said it would give the decision on Monday.
\nThe petitions were filed on Sunday seeking a direction on the chief election commissioner, secretaries of the local government rural development and the election commission for holding the long overdue mayoral polls in Dhaka North City and Dhaka South City.
\nPetitioners\u2019 lawyer M Badruddoza Badal\u00a0 submitted that though section 33 of the Local Government (City Corporation) Act 2009 amended in 2012, says that elections in the newly created\u00a0 cities should be held within 180 days, the government and the EC were deliberately delaying the elections on various pretext.
\nIn November 2011, the AL-led government split the historic city of Dhaka by amending the local government law to create DSC and DNC.<\/p>\n
