Dhaka stocks ended flat on Thursday, the last trading session of the week, with an increased turnover.\u00a0The benchmark general index of Dhaka Stock Exchange, DSEX, closed at 4,753.17 points, adding 0.09 per cent or 4.65 points.\u00a0The blue-chip index of the bourse, DS30, declined by 0.15 per cent, or 2.60 points, to close at 1,660.35 points.\u00a0Shariah index, DSES, closed at 974.27 points, shedding 0.09 per cent or 0.93 points.
\nMarket operators said the market started positive on the day but it failed to sustain the gain in late trading after the pronouncement of the verdict in two cases on the country\u2019s ever biggest arms haul.
\nThey also said profit-taking move of investors in late trading might be another reason for the flat ending.
\n\u2018Upbeat vive couldn\u2019t sustain at the end of today\u2019s [Thursday] session as investors tended for profit booking,\u2019 IDLC Investments said in its daily market commentary.
\nIt said, \u2018Preference to sector-wise and scrip-wise movement backed by earning disclosures and expectations led rebalancing their portfolio.\u2019
\n\u2018However, today\u2019s [Thursday] turnover showcased robust movement, going up by 36.50 per cent to Tk 857 crore. Earning declarations mostly magnified this activity,\u2019 IDLC said.
\nThe turnover of the bourse increased to Tk 856.98 crore from the previous trading session\u2019s Tk 627.84 crore.
\nOf the 295 shares and mutual funds traded, 174 advanced, 89 declined and 32 remained unchanged.
\nMeghna Petroleum led the turnover leaders with its shares worth Tk 41.04 crore changing hands.
\nPadma Oil, Generation Next Fashions, Tallu Spinning, Aamra Technologies, Olympic Industries, Confidence Cement, Keya Cosmetics, Grameenphone and Square Pharma were among the other turnover leaders.
\nBangladesh Building Systems gained the most with a 9.90-per cent increase in its share price, while Golden Harvest Agro Industries lost the most, shedding 7.48 per cent.<\/p>\n
