Children\u2019s Painting Workshop At Shilpakala<\/em>
\nChildren, parents want extension<\/strong>
\n<\/a>Children and parents want extension and continuation of the year-long children\u2019s painting workshop that commenced on January 3 this year and is scheduled to end in December.
\nBangladesh Shilpakala Academy organised the workshop as part of a year long celebration programme of the birth centenary of
\nshilpacharya Zainul Abedin (1914-1976).More than 400 children, divided into four age groups, have been participating in the workshop on Fridays with untiring zeal and enthusiasm.
\nIn response to children and their parents\u2019 demand, authorities of Shilpakala say that they are also thinking of extending the programme, though there are several constraints.
\nMost of the learners from grade one to ten expressed their interest in continuing with the workshop. Besides, many of them have fine arts as a mandatory course on their curriculum, which makes their parents take the workshop seriously and earnestly.
\nParents revealed to New Age that it would be quite a good thing if the workshop continued. In fact, many of them demanded that Shilpakala should run permanent teaching courses on fine arts for children.
\n\u2018My son loves to paint and he also has fine arts as a course in his curriculum. The workshop at Shilpakala is, therefore, helping him on two grounds\u2019, said Tahmina Alam, mother of Tanzib Ahmed who is attending the workshop since January.
\nTahmina, earlier, used to provide a house tutor to her son for lessons in fine arts, which, Tahmina shares, is costly and less satisfying compared to Shilpakala\u2019s workshop.
\nTanzib, a class VII student at Motijhil Ideal School, also likes attending the workshop more than taking lessons from his private tutor. \u2018I enjoy doing art here with my friends\u2019, said Tanzib.
\nLike Tanzib and his mother, other children and their parents are also happy with the workshop where children are guided to paint whatever they want most of the time and the friendly course instructors interrupt little to make them about styles of painting.
\n\u2018We do not interrupt children\u2019s joyous involvement during painting; we just roam around and help them explore what they can do with colours\u2019, said Prodyut Kumar Biswas, one of the instructors of the workshop.
\nBiswas also informed that the children seemed to be enjoying the course from the beginning of the programme, which gives much satisfaction to the instructors. \u2018An extension of the course will be great for the children\u2019, added Prodyut.
\nDirector General of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Liaquat Ali Lucky, also shares the same opinion. \u2018I know that the ongoing course is very popular and inspiring for children. I have already thought of extending it for one more year\u2019, said the director general, who also thinks that different courses on different branches of arts should also be offered by Shilpakala to children and the young.
