The prices of beef and mutton went up in the capital\u2019s kitchen markets over the week ending Friday.\u00a0Traders said that the market experienced a supply shortage of cows and goats due to interrupted transportation caused by the ongoing non-stop blockade and frequent hartals (general strike) called by the BNP-led opposition alliance across the country.\u00a0The prices of beef and mutton increased by Tk 20-Tk 30 a kg over the week.
\nThe beef was selling at Tk 340-Tk 350 a kg at Hatirpool and Shantinagar kitchen markets on Friday while mutton was selling at Tk 490-Tk 520 a kg.
\nA trader at Shantinagar kitchen market said the prices of animals increased in the market as flow of cows decreased significantly due to blockade.
\nDecreased number animals entered in the capital everyday with paying high truck fare and so the traders have been forced to increase the prices of meat, he said.
\nThe prices of vegetables remained unchanged.
\nCauliflower and cabbage were retailing at Tk 20 a piece and Tk 15 a piece respectively, aubergine was selling at Tk 30-Tk 40 a kg, tomato at Tk 30 a kg, cucumber at Tk 30 a kg, okra at Tk 110 a kg and bitter gourd at Tk 50-Tk 60 a kg on the day.
\nPotato was selling at Tk 10-Tk 15 a kg on Friday.
\nGreen chilli was selling at Tk 50 a kg over the week.
\nThe prices of onion and garlic remained stable.
\nOnion was selling at Tk 30-Tk 40 a kg while the imported onion was retailing at Tk 38 a kg on Friday.
\nThe prices of imported garlic was selling at Tk 80-Tk 90 a kg while newly harvested local item was retailing at Tk 60-Tk 70 a kg on the day.
\nThe prices of bottled soya bean oil decreased a bit as refiners revised the prices of the item considering the price fall on international market.
\nA one-litre container of soya bean oil was selling at Tk 101-Tk 105 while a five-litre container was selling at Tk 500-Tk 505 in the city\u2019s Karwan Bazar kitchen market.
\nExcept Karwan Bazar the bottled soya bean oil was selling at previous prices in most of the markets.
\nUnpacked soya bean oil was retailing at Tk 95-Tk 100 a litre while refined plum oil was selling at Tk 74-Tk 76 a litre on Friday.
\nThe prices of rice and red lentil remained high over the week.
\nThe fine variety of BR-28 rice was selling at Tk 46-Tk 48 a kg and the coarse variety was selling at Tk 42-Tk 44 a kg on Friday.
\nThe fine variety of miniket rice was selling at Tk 50-Tk 53 a kg while the coarse variety was retailing at Tk 47-Tk 48 a kg.
\nThe fine variety of najirshail was selling at Tk 55-Tk 58 a kg and the coarse variety was retailing at Tk 46-Tk 52 a kg on the day.
\nThe coarse variety of rice was retailing at Tk 32-Tk 37 a kg over the week.
\nThe fine variety of red lentil was selling at Tk 115 a kg while its local variety was selling at Tk 110 a kg.
\nThe price of red lentil imported from Turkey and Canada was selling at Tk 90 a kg over the week.
\nThe broiler price remained unchanged and the item was selling at Tk 125-Tk 135 a kg on Friday.
\nFish prices remained unchanged.
\nRohita was selling at Tk 200-Tk 300 a kg, katla at Tk 200-Tk 280 a kg, pangas at Tk 120-Tk 170 a kg and tilapia at Tk 110-Tk 180 a kg, depending on their size and quality.
\nSugar was selling at Tk 46-Tk 48 a kg on Friday.
\nThe price of egg remained unchanged and it was selling at Tk 30 a hali (four pieces) over the week.<\/p>\n
