The Bangladesh Cricket Board on Sunday formed a committee to probe the halted Dhaka Premier League match between Abahani Limited and Prime Dolehswar.

BCB president Nazmul Hasan said that few senior cricket organisers and formers players were in the committee that was asked to submit the report within 72 hours. On June 12, the match at BKSP was halted as both the umpires refused to continue the match citing their illness after Abahani players hurled abusive words following their failed stumping appeal against Doleshwar batsman Roqibul Hassan.

Till now the fate of the match hangs in balance, though the BCB in its Sunday’s Board of Directors’ meeting was expected to give a decision regarding the matter.

A perplexed BCB president said that he never heard about such situation.

‘The committee must let us know why the issue has come to us. We ourselves even cannot understand why it happened. It is an unusual situation,’ said Nazmul.

‘We have seen that players or umpires may fell unwell. But no play held, the play was stopped…where two teams wanted to play but umpires did not conduct the game, that sort of thing is unheard of.

‘We do not know what to do under these circumstances. We have discussed the matter with many people. We have been getting various responses from different sources.

‘Now a committee is made. They will communicate with people and all other concerned parties before make a proper report and submit to me.’

Chairman of umpires’ committee Nazmul Karim Tenku, chairman of disciplinary committee Sheikh Sohel, senior match referee Roquibul Hasan and former national cricketer Atahar Ali Khan were among the members of the committee.

Nazmul said he expected Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis Gazi Golam Dostogir to brief the matters to the directors, but he was absent in the meeting.

‘We could not know many things as CCDM president was absent. We might have known many things had he been present,’ said Nazmul.
