Five people were killed as their private car fell into a roadside pond at Purba Naraha under Shahrasti upazila in Chandpur district early Wednesday.
\nThe deceased are Shahparan Tushar, 22, of village Ramdevpur, Shakil Hossain, 23, of village Narpaia, Rezaul Karim, 24, of village Chanpa Keshtala under Shahrasti in Chandpur, Md Nayan, 24, of village Dhanyakhola under Sharsha upazila in Jashore and Sagar Hossain, 24, of Uttar Khaliakur area in Gazipur.
\nOf them, Sagar was the driver of the private car.
\nShaharasti Police Station inspector (investigation) Md Morshedul Alam Bhuiyan, quoting the victims\u2019 relatives, said that they were returning to Monoharganj from Cumilla after attending a wedding ceremony.
\nThe accident took place as the driver of the car lost control over steering at about 1:00 am and fell in the roadside pond in Purba Narah area and the private car drowned in the pond, he said.
\nChandpur Fire Service deputy assistant director Md Shahidul Islam said that they, on information from the locals, rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies from the microbus by breaking open the window of the private car.
